That's in the traditional Indian culture. You can do what u like if u get to live in foreign countries. Until then u have to respect tradition and particularly the wishes of your elders in the family..

Hey are you still stuck in those times when everything was based on some stupid beliefs. I understand that periods happen just to shell off the blood and muscle which is naturally created when you are ready to create a baby. Dear, I would not ever believe how a god would feel upset in situation like that if you do Puja. If you do believe in god then its all is required. Go ahead and do what you feel is correct as god never made a time table for his worship.

It is not without certain reasons that such rules or traditions have been laid or followed.
Firstly, there is a question of hygiene, while todays women may have all those pads and tampoons, in early time there was no such things and hence seclusion is a means of keeping the hygiene.
Secondly, the mental state of women during the menses are not quite stable, since they at times undergo pain and there are hormonal changes happening constantly. In such a condition it is advisable they dont exert themselves by involving in any physical or mental tasks.
Acts of pooja are required to be undertaken in a state where one has peace of mind, else it would be in vain.
Infact, women could use this period every month to indulge in quality reading, writing or any hobby which would not involve extreme physical activity. This would do a whole lot of good for them, for the rest of the month.

Dear Sangeetha,
Very nice question.
you are right my dear. It is all myth - misconception.
It is unscientific. Ladies like you should start changing these unwanted myths followed for no reason and meaningless.
It is a natural process in a woman's body.
I am a widower, hindu brahmin, madhwa and my wife though she was from an orthodox family, changed her self so fast, and she never said anything about such things. She used to take bath on those five days and started working. But as I understood the function of woman's body, I just kept away myself from her from sex, not to trouble her. Giving names to such things is nothing but creating problems unwanted. When more persons are available at home in those days, the home work is being done by others. Now a days, shortage of hands and working husbands, who cannot go to kitchen to prepare foods and so on, it is not correct and possible for a woman to sit without doing anything. The home is a world and home management is not that easy for a woman, even then, they will do that routine job without comments and grumbling. We have to respect you for being such a good and diligent worker. Men has to cooperate with their wives as much as possible. Women are just like shock absorbers. They deserve more appreciation.
We have to come out of such myths dear lady.
I am very happy about your nice and specific question.
I am with you.
Good luck and my blessings to you.

This is since generations ago. that women was not allowed.

Since we are in the 21st century. I would not like my wife to have a blind faith and do such a thing.

God made you & me. He made all good things on earth. Its only we who have made this distance & difference.

But i guess! even you have the same fear like our ancient people. and i thing you will carry on the tradition.

Please for God sake do not folloe the same principle. Make your own and check the difference your self.

You should be the first one to do it and others can follow your foot steps...

ALL THE BEST!

In our Indian culture we perform Puja with all Sudhata, Pavitrata and all cleanness.

While the Mensuration cycle is the process to remove impurity of the body, u need to wait till ............!!

This is our custom and we believe it logical too.

FIRST OFF LETS JUST CLEAR THE AIR, THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD AND IN HIS TEN COMMANDMENTS IT STATES THAT YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME. SO, IF YOU ARE PRAYING TO THIS PUJA AND NOT TO GOD, THEN YOU ARE VIOLATING ONE OF HIS COMMANDMENTS AND YOU WILL PAY THE PRICE. THE GOOD NEWS IS HE IS A FORGIVING GOD AND WHEN YOU ASK FOR FORGIVENESS HE WILL GIVE IT TO YOU.

You are stuck in Middle ages.

Everything is fine including worshiping the god
( or doing pooja ) when you are in Mensuration.
