You so have not bought a house before!
There are NO guarantees about moving schedules. It is these kind of expectations that leads to extra stress because people think they can have everything tied up and sorted within a certain time frame.
If you just start looking and choose the house that's right for you and your husband, and just cross fingers you can move as soon as possible - if you have to move before or after Christmas - what's the problem?? Remember you are getting your first home - it should be exciting - so just relax.

I would play it by ear. If you can't start looking until October, you don't know if you'll find a house quickly or not. I understand you may not want the hassle over Christmas but solicitors etc shut down anyway so if you'd already found a suitable home, it would probably go through in January anyway, if before it would be early enough before Christmas for you to get sorted.
Of course you may not find a house you like straight away so it may be after Christmas anyway. I really wouldn't worry about Christmas, no solicitor is going to have you signing papers on Christmas Day !!
Good luck with your new home x

How bad do you want to move out of your parents? If you can wait I guess i would. You could look in October and if you find a home you love that would give you enough time before Christmas. If you don't plan on having a Christmas celebration at your new home it maybe ok to start looking now and don't stop until you find what you want.GOOD LUCK!

Christmas comes every year at the same time but buying the right home at the right price in the right neighborhood at the right interest rate does not. Before or after Christmas should not even be in the equation.

It depends on how much gear you have.
I moved into my first house on the 20th December a number of years ago.
We made a priority of the main bedroom, kitchen and dining room. Everything else was left until the new year.
We had a lovely first christmas.

I say go ahead and move into the new house before Christmas. This way, you can celebrate the holiday in a new place. Wouldn't that be exciting?

you can stay there and deal with the move after the holidays or you can move in before and celebrate your 1st Christmas in your own home. Depends on your job situation and time allocation for this plus getting ready for the holidays in general. GL!

Oh do it before.... the thought of being in your own place with the person you love, house like a tip, boxes everywhere, your own Christmas tree......how romantic! It will be a good memory to draw on in years to come for your kids maybe.

Wouldnt it be lovely to have your very own place to wake up in on Christmas morning....yes it may still be a mess, but surely it would be worth it, just to know that the bricks and mortar that you spend Xmas in belongs to you and is a product of hard work, saving and growing up !!
PS - You could "put it off" forever, so just do it !
