Every man wants power and authority, if he can achieve that. The British, for well over two and three centuries were riding on the crest of power. No sun literally set on their empire. There are proud of their past, rightly. There are yet to shake off the past, much to the chagrin of the French.

I'm not British, but have no clue where you're coming from. You will need to elaborate on your idea to get better answers instead of hate answers. I've never head that British people want power & authority, but to each his own.

I feel it is a hangover from the time when Great Britain was the greatest power in the world. After World War II it was very evident England was no longer the world power it once was. Both the USSR and the US had emerged as Superpowers, relegating a financially crippled England to "just another European country". They have never gotten used to the fact they no longer command the same respect of weld the same international power they once enjoyed.

I am british I don't want power or authority nor do I need it. if you are talking about our government they are a bunch of to****s who can't even arrange or run a childs birthday party let alone our country.

It is a "white" culture of "independence and individualism" where the individual is on top of everything.
It may also have something to do with ego.
And less emphasis on "love for humanity."
