.... How many fundamentalist engineers have sucessfully built something employing the biblical value of pi (3) in the construction rather than the secular value?

To those who ask where in the bible, "oldgruffgrump" names it: 1 Kings 7:23

Religion has contributed nothing to knowledge or invention.

On occasion, it has requisitioned something, paid for something to be made which those of intelligence built without religion, but the shelf of religion's and theism's contribution to progress and knowledge is bare.

The bile - oops, bible - also says bats are birds, that rabbits chew their cud, and that the sun circles the Earth.

Nice question. If I was running Yahoo I would give you 10 points just for the question. Seems you caught some of the so called bible know it alls off guard.

I am a "NO" and a seroius bible student. It is my life. I also love math thus this has been of interest to me. Some day I will attempt to work out the formula for it or ha ha try.

Do you object if I do correct your question? First the word or term PI is not used or even indicated. Second you missed stating that this circled object did have a brim. The length of the interior of the brim was equal to 3 times the diameter of the circle that did reach from the outside edge, thus it is talking about two distincts circles as if one is looking at the top of a cup. Those words say that the brim was 1/14 thick when one does see the entire diameter of the circle. My friend since PI is 22/7 and the circumference inside is 3 times the diameter, the 3 times is 21/7 of PI. Thus the brim is 1/14 of the diameter to make the exterior diameter including the brim. Thus in these words the thickness of the object and the circumference of both circles are easily to construct starting with only one known fact. Ha Ha it sure makes the circles more exact to measure don't it. Yes my Friend I do see my God as exact and percise in all that he does do and explain. Too bad too many do miss exactly what He does have to say yet they are so proud to use the title of scholar, preacher, teacher, etc., etc.

Again I must commend you for at least posting this and maybe some will open their eyes to see some more of the hidden wealth included in the Bible words as is included in your question.

What? And you know exactly what a cubit is? Who said there was a Biblical and secular value of PI. There is one value for PI which is 22/7. Work it out. Comes out the same way whoeve does it. OK?

Don't you people have anything better to occupy your time?

Biblical PI - How ridiculous can people get!

Here's the Bible verse:

1 Kings 7:23 (King James Version)

And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.

Religion is fairy tale stuff. It is not science, nor does it have any practical value in science or engineering.

where do you get pi equal to exactly 3 in the Bible? never saw that before. are you making a metaphor on the Trinity?

I don't know where you got this idea but that's nowhere in either the Jewish or Christian Bible. This sounds liike a variation of an urban legend that a state legislature once foolishly changed Pi to 3.0 to make math easier.

I'm a seminary graduate and I'm quite sure this is misinformation. Check out rumors like this online in places like snopes.com.
