First you have to decide what your budget will be. Then decide what are the most important elements to you. I got married in March on a very small budget. It was most important for me to have quality photos so the photographer was my single biggest expense. I bought flowers at a wholesaler and did all the arrangements, bouquets, boutteniers, & corsages myself. Hand tied bouquets are very in style now. I bought 100 roses & some carnations for about $100. My groom & I didn't want a traditional wedding cake so we went to a local bakery and picked out a gorgeous chocolate cake but didn't tell them it was for a wedding and that only cost us $100 and it was awesome. My cake topper cost almost as much as the cake. The hardest thing to find at a reasonable price was a dress. I ended up buying a white formal from a place in New York for $200.
Definitely enlist friends & family to help wherever you can. I had a friend make the jewelry for my attendants. My Mom & I did the food for the reception. You can always have just a coffee & cake reception for a very small price or you can opt for no reception but you'll probably wish you had one. We saved several hundred dollars printing our own invitations & programs.
The second largest expense for us was the church. We didn't actually have to pay for the use of the sanctuary but we did have to pay for the Pastor, organist, & sexton. A less expensive option would be a local park but you'll have to have someplace covered in case it rains.
Basically, set your budget, prioritize your needs, & shop around. Good luck!

You can have a great wedding on a budget. Do an internet search for budget weddings.
Also have friends and family help out. When my neice married, several friends got together and each one contributed. One did the dress as her wedding gift, one did the reception as her gift, one did the cake... you get the idea. We all got together and made the day special because it really was a day of love not just spending money that you don't have.

Before you begin the wedding plans, you need to have some idea of how much money you have to spend on your wedding. If you find that you don't have enough money for a big wedding, you should plan on a small family affair and plan accordingly.

You can start one of two places - either set a date or set a budget. You can do these in whatever order you choose but they have to be the first two. From there, do a search for budget weddings on Google or any of the other search engines.

Start with a date and figure out what you absolutely want and what you could cut back on. There are several wedding sites you could search. I listed the ones I know of.
