My female dog is in a cool area and her and her puppies or in a open box. Her first litter she did not pant. She is this time ( second litter). Could she have milk fever, something else, or is it nothing at all?

Lol, mothering is hard work! Seriously now, touch her nose and make sure its moist and cold. If it's not, she has a fever. Then take her to a vet. She wouldn't have milk fever if she's still feeding the pups. Milk fever is only possible when the flow of milk ceases and the milk gets "backed up" in the glands.

This just her way of cooling off. Totally of the norm for this to happen. It takes alot from her to care for her pups. Even if the litter was of only 2.

Hi : All the answers above are possible but if all your doggie is doing is panting and nothing else seems wrong i would not worry about it much ... dogs pant for many reasons ... yes to cool off
and another is its their way of showing they are happy and content.
> does she seem unhappy ? does she wag her tail ?

I have 2 - 7 year old female Shih Tzu's .... those two sweeties allways pant and wag there tails . It means their Happy

I'd call someone. Panting is a way of circulating oxygen to cool the body temperature. Try cool drinks and take her temperature. Cool her from the inside out.

The best thing to do is ask your vet. Anyway, dogs pant in a large number of situations, not just to cool themselves down. One reason for patting is happiness: it is their way of laughing. In that case, the patting is quick and the tongue does not show much.
