anything easy to lift off the plate and simple to digest...really its comforty foods....i personally love the sausage rolls/sandwiches etc but one of the best birthday parties my sister and i did when the boys were young was a bacon and beans cowboy breakfast....kids parties are a chance for kids to have the nice nibbly things thatTHEY like not just whats good for them...but be careful about too many sickly sugary stuff and very greasy foods or they'll be very very sick when they get up to play games!! good luck and don't forget to keep some asprin to one side for yourself lol

You are inviting small children? Big children? Or a mix of small and big children? Small children upto the age of 10 to 12 can go along with some light food - puffs, donuts, sausage, light salad and such things in addition to the birthday cake and some sweets (toffees or choclates). Big children would expect some fried noodles/rice, pasta, salad or some fried meat and such things. But the important thing is not to serve too much of spicy food and carbonated drinks when inviting children to a party.

I think that finger food is the best option. And bear in mind that kids judge by the food's appearance how tasty the treat will be. Colourful food that always go well like: mini pizzas, cupcakes, mini sanwiches, sausage rolls, smoothies, mini burgers. You can sneak some "5 a day" within the layers of food! Oh and a birthday cake!

I since you are having children over let them make there own mini pizzas.

You buy pepperonii.cheese,olives and pinapples.
you can get the pizza dough in the can that rolls out flat and cut it into squares or use cookie cutters.
let them cut the dough andput toppings on (you of course do the sause and it keeps every one busy.
instead of candy give mini cupcakes or cinnabon minis...my son went crazy over the idea.

You can serve anything at a birthday party. There are hot dogs, burgers, fried chicken, pizza, tacos, any thing goes. Let your imagination take charge, okay? and have fun.

At my son's last party we had bologna sandwiches cut into triangles. The kids loved them.
Hot dogs or pizza is always a big hit.
