why can not they invent away to have the same sweet,ripe vegetables in the winter

Because some countries have four seasons and they need to import from other parts of the world and when the vegetables or fruits are shipped, they are still not riped... Ex : strawberries that have no taste or juice, tomatoes that do not taste like tomatoes at all, rather like plastic and not tasty at all. I believe it's all a question of $$$... keep up the production no matter what ! People are fools and they buy it just the same.
Fresh summer vegetables are so delicious. I love them.

Vine ripened tomatoes, cleaned, cut and chilled in the refrigerator...salt to taste, yum.

It would be really nice, wouldnt it? I can some foods and use my food dehydrator on some of the fruits for the kids.
