How can I change or replaced the front break pads in '99 Volkswagen Passat? It's a disc breaks and do I need special tools to do it? I have already replaced the rear break pads, but the front breaks looks so different. My car is a '99 VW passat gls 4dr, 1.8 ltr 20v turbo engine. Thanks.

get a service manual so you'll know the specs when you torque the calipers. You do torque the calipers, right? Make sure you lube your brake pad pins and clips with a bit of high temp grease. You want those pads to release.

maybe a socket set, a breaker bar, some wd40 or equivalent.

a few screw drivers to pry apart the caliper.

a small socket to bleed off the wheel cylinder.

that's about all i can think of.

why do u need to do it yourself? its not an expensive problem for the vw service, let them do it. it will be more healthy.
