Our landlord just walks in when we're not home and without knowing it to show people our apartment to rent out! We haven't even told her that we're moving! She just comes right in. Anyway, is this like totally wrong?? We haven't signed any contract or agreement with her, just pay rent month-to-month. Also, our neighbors stab each other, beat each other, deal drugs, etc. What should we do about that? Anything?

If you are renting month to month your landlord still has to give you a 30 day written notice that she wants you to leave. If she is holding a deposit you need to give her a 30 day notice if you intend to move, otherwise she can keep your deposit. She should be giving you 24 hours notice before entering your apartment for any reason other than emergancys like a water pipe bursting. As for your neighbors take that up with the police.

I lived in a similar situation once. I hung onto the apartment for dear life because it was NYC and it's very hard to get a good place there. Unfortunately my landlord knew it. He was always walking in whenever he wanted to- daily, I daresay. He even tried to control who I kept as friends- he was a hardcore racist. If you're only on month to month though, you have fewer rights than if you had a lease. Either way though, a landlord cannot enter your place without a twenty four hour notice unless it's an emergency. I'd talk to her about it and see how that goes. Just mention that as long as you are paying her, this is your home, and you don't feel that your privacy is being respected.

If this doesn't work, you may want to check out what rights you have in your region. In some states you can actually change your locks and give the key to a neighbor. Someone else has to have the key in case of emergencies, but it doesn't have to be your landlord in some areas!

It sounds like you'd really like to move though, and I'd go ahead and do that as soon as you can. It just isn't worth putting up with an all around bad situation.

If you haven't signed a contract, you can move out at anytime unless you are looking to save a few bucks because I assume your place is dirt cheap. Even if that is the case, it is not worth all the danger and hassle of dealing with your landlord. It sounds like your landlord is planning to evict you since he is showing people your place even without your consent. I'm not sure on the legality of this case. It isn't worth getting an attorney to fight for your rights in a place where there's no boundaries. As many will advise, it's time to look for another place to live.

Depending on the apartment complex. Some complexes are subcontracted out by a major realtor or land developer. You have renters' rights and they should be posted in the landlords office or other general area. You could also contact your local federal agency to see if the property is HUD oriented and they could lead you in the right direction. I had landlord problems too and now I have a new landlord. He was fired.

Call the police on your neighbors, but anonymously and with the landlord thing, you can call a lawyer about that problem cuz I do believe that it is against the landlord's code to violate a tenant's property without warning

I don't know what the rules are in your state, but unless it is a bona fide emergency a landlord MUST allow you 48 hours notice before entering your apartment. We allow ours to come in on 24 hours notice, but we ALLOW it. Judging by the way you describe your neighborhood, I would MOVE NOW... GET OUT OF THERE BEFORE YOU BECOME THE STATISTICS!!!

thats illegal for them to enter, I had that problem once I changed the locks, not illegal, you should look for a better place! As for the neighbors, if you call the police do it anonaymously so they don't try to get revenge on you, they could be dangerous.
