The answer to your question depends on where you live. In some states in the US, Minor moving violations only stay for 3 years while major violations stay for 5. Other states allow them to stay for up to 7 years (generally the max). This is how the insurance companies determine the amount to surcharge and how long they can do it. (BTW just becouse a point may have come off your driving record, there are timeframes of which insurance companies can continue to charge you for them)

This question came up last week. Just type in 'Points on Driving Licences' in the "Search for Questions" box and you'll get loads of ready-made answers, and you could have saved yourself 5 points, oy vey!

The points get removed after 4 years but do not count after 3 - if you get 12 points in any 3 year period you get a ban.

This is for normal offenses such as speeding etc ... Drink driving is different.

I believe that under the totting up process it's 3 years. But you cannot get the record of it removed from your licence for 4 years.
