Yes! To heck with the world!

Every time in history when the United States chose to stay out of the world's affairs, she has been dragged back in with more stake than ever. Take WW1 and WW2, the Spanish American War, even the war of 1812. Americans is general have 2 distinct characteristics in terms of foreign policy: pacifists and wanna be heroes. I'm not joking.

We shouldn't be talking about isolationism, because if the US pulled out of the world, the world will collapse and the US would have to pull it out of chaos again. We should be talking on real diplomacy. What happened to the brilliant decisions, to the kind made by Jefferson, or Andrew Jackson, or the Roosevelts? Americans have to make the choice, simply because there is none other to do it...for now.

I have thought about this as a solution to alot of our problems. But in reality, I don't think it is feasible. We would be shooting ourselves in the foot. It would hurt us economically for sure. And the world would look at us like cowards. We have started alot of things and then just to withdraw and leave many peoples hanging would just be a travesty.
The US has done alot of good on the international level as well as stirred up trouble. But the trouble we usually stir up usually has a means to an end. It just sometimes doesn't get handled properly. So, it makes the US looks bad.
Everyone has it good right now from an economic standpoint. If we were to go abck to isolationism, everyone who enjoys the luxuries that they buy, will be hurting for some time. Especially gas.
Everyone think about that?!

Ever seen the United States on a map of the globe? It's a little bitty thing. The biggest reason we are in the Middle East is to
protect the Suez Canal, Persian Gulf area. If that got cut off by
a hostile power. It would destroy the Worlds Economy by shutting down all the shipping and trade going through there.
Everybody talks about the people dying. It's sad, true. But do
we ever think about the millions of Americans who already
died and fought and were injured, so Americans can travel
freely around the world?

Didn't know we were World's police.

Just declined to send troops to Lebanon.

Clinton made one poor military decision, G. Bush Jr. has made several(if that's what you mean).

History of man is a history of war. Maybe the women should be in charge.

As for isolationism the last time we tried that almost wound up speaking German... or Japanese depending on where you lived.

My father patrolled the beaches in NY where the uboat sent men ashore(terrorists!). Their unit later participated in the landings at Normandy. Do not know his political views on this BUT would probably agree any policy which leads to WW is a bad policy.
But he would not be thrilled by current situation either...

As for myself I was an 'American Ambassador' who hopefully made up for some of the ignorant Americans. Although can't recall us ever using concentration camps and only very few incidents of torture(contrary to widespread belief it is a very poor means of gathering accurate information. See conviction rate of Chicago Police last few decades...and subsequent releases/investigations... seems enough voltage applied to the genitals will get a person to confess to anything).

Hearts and minds folks... practice what you preach... lead by example!

No, because the problem is, is that that the world is running out of oil. We need to be in Iraq (ostensibly to create a democracy) to secure the remaining oil reserves. In order to maintain power, we need to control the World's oil. In World War II there was plenty of oil in the United States and demand was lower. Now most of the US fields are on the decline. Oil unfortunately is the world's cheapest form of energy and the country that controls it, controls the world.

Yes, I do think we should quit beikg world cop. Plus we're brutal and clumsy about it (Abu Ghriab!).

In ONE AREA we must not go back to pre-WW2 isolationism -- we must stay on the world stage and fight like an animal against nuclear proliferation -- if we don't stay on top of that, the new and jealous nuclear powers will make trouble for us.

'Paris' says we.. 'have to be the policeman of the world'. 'Paris needs to stop believeing the scripts on Fox because it's ignorant beliefs like this that has us in the mess we are in. A civil war in Iraq, up to 50 dying daily, over 100,000 civlians and 2,300 troops dead, more deaths each day in Afghanistan, over 1,000 in Lebanon. Soon we will run out of troops they will be so stretched around the world.

The lunatic's foreign policy clearly is not working..will it stop? I doubt it because he is far too much in the pockets of the arms industry and they have a vested interest in him funding more wars. Right now he spends $425Billion annualy on defence, at the expense of our schools, healcare, jobs, economy.

The only way this madness will stop is when this cowboy's ass is out out of the white house and back home on his ranch. Only then will our world be safer and more secure.

YESSSS!!! However, it will never happen. The main reason behind the US being world police is so that greedy rich people can stick their nose and hands into other countrys to manipulate the leadership of that country in order to enrich themselves. Money and greed is the driving force behind almost all things in this world.

That would mean the UN would die, and China would most likely take over half the world. As sad as this may be, the US is actually doing a OK job as "world police," mainly thanks to their strange ability to make everyone else love the UN (except for China, who recently told the UN to "Shut Up about Taiwan.")
