How long did it take to come off of it? I can't afford it anymore and tapered my self off of it. For about a week now i have'nt taken any. My lips tingle, my head hurts, I can't eat or hardly sleep, I feel dizzy and nausous. How long will this last? I didn't go cold turkey. I ad been taking it for about 5 years.

it depends on the dose. The withdrawls from effexor can be horrid. I was on a dose of 325 and i had to go down over 3 weeks. so you probably stepped down too fast. They will pass tho, after 3 days your system will be clear of any of the med, and things get rough for a few days after that but it should start to calm down soon if its been a week. Drink LOTS of fluids, very important when coming off any drug and it honestly helps a lot. Just do your best to try and get through this, its all you can do. If you get worse, and not any better in the next couple days, go to the ER because there could be a complication. And pay attention to your mood as best as you can, if you get depressed or suicidal also go to the ER. Effexor is brutal when coming off...sorry you're having such a hard time

effexor iss one of those drugs no matter how long you been taking it and you go off cold turkey you have wicked side effects. i have a friend she tried to go off and it nearly put her in the hospital. i understand you cant afford it but cant you call your dr to see if he has samples so you can get back on it i would try or maybe he can suggest an alternative

Effexor has some really nasty withdrawal effects. They aren't life threatening, though, just uncomfortable. It may take another week or two before they stop.

I took Effexor once and will never forge the horrible side-effects it caused me. I thought I was dying!

GO to the doctor that was prescribing it and see if he can give you samples and a regimen to taper off and see if he can put you on a cheaper antidepressant
