Think of the consequences...
you are not immediately metabolizing the food as fast as if you were awake. Think: fat, fat, fat...
Promise yourself a reward if you succeed for 2 weeks. Try munching on carrots, celery, blueberries, etc. if the urge is strong. They are much better alternatives to chips, soda, candy, junk.
Be healthy and motivated!

Oh my gosh...have we all been there or what?! I hate it too. I read once that it is helpful to turn on lights at night. Apparently when it is dark we tend to want to eat more and when we are eating, we do it less consciously. Obviously this is very true while we watch TV or work on the computer. Also, try drinking lots of liquids to keep your tummy full. This works if you have had enough food throughout the day. If you haven't, then it probably won't do the trick and you'll still be hungry. In which case you should snack, but try to limit it to 100 calories and healthy. FYI: 1 red grape is 2 calories, so if you were to have a 100 calorie snack, you could have 50 grapes!

I used to have this habit. And what I do now instead of junk snacks I just eat lots of veggies. Eat as much as you want. They'll make you feel full and won't make you gain weight.
It might be hard to get used to since junk food is pretty addictive, but trust me after you've done it for few weeks, junk will be nothing but a memory.
It actually only took me a couple of days to get used to it and to stop craving chips.
Good luck :)

Make sure you're eating enough during the day. A lot of times late night hunger and cravings are worse when you haven't gotten enough calories into you earlier on. Make sure you get plenty of protein and complex carbs. Try a soy or veggie burger in a whole wheat tortilla w/ some light mayo and ketchup. It's good for you and fills you up.

you probably know you should eat 5 hours before you sleep. if you get hungry try to eat a healthy snack like grapes(they fill you up a bit) or cereal. my sister would snack a lot at night when she smoke too much pot. lay off the mary jane....ha ha i'm really just kidding. I work late so i'm pretty hungry when i get home. i try to stay up for at least 3 hours after i eat and i don't eat anything heavy. i like special k cereal bars. good luck.

This sounds crazy but it works --make a bowl of hot cereal (especially rolled oats or wheatena or multi-grain hot cereal) with some powdered milk or non-fat milk about 90 minutes before going to bed.
It is filling, it has protein and fiber, and it doesn't have the sugar and junk that convert to fat easily! And it EXPANDS over the next couple of hours so you go to sleep full and not hungry and not having stuffed yourself.
Alternative to hot cereal: steamed leguminous vegetables like peas or lima beans or corn or a mixture --also filling and lacking in sugar.

I'm in the same boat as you right now. What I do instead of eating is drink water. It's not the best, but it makes you full and is good for you. Water will also help you with you weight loss program because it will make you full and you won't eat as much.
Good Luck to you!

I think for those of us that are night owls, that late night binging can be a real problem. Try to narrow down the time when you feel the urge, and then start going to bed before the craving starts.

If you like to stay up late and end up getting hungry before your bedtime just make sure you have something healthy to snack on instead of chips or cookies or other unhealthy things.
