Saying your eyes are shaped like a football instead of being round is a way many eye doctors describe astigmatism.
Astigmatism - to be more accurate - it actually when your eye needs more than one power to focus correctly and see clearly. Think of it this way - if you draw a cross and put your normal Rx on both the vertical and horizontal (say -2.00) then the eye is spherical (round) and that power works for both meridians (vertical and horizontal). Having astigmatism means that -2.00 on both meridians will not let you see clearly but that you may need -2.00 on the horizontal and -1.00 on the vertical. This leads to the Rx being written similar to -2.00-1.00x180 instead of just -2.00.
Astigmatism is not uncommon
That probably became "blah blah blah" but at least you can go back and read it again ;-)

it refers to how your eyes are shaped, they are elongated, but not from side-to-side. they are longer, as in, hm, back into your head. know what i mean? they arent shaped like perfect balls. if you could look into your head from the side, they would look like ovals. i think thats what causes astigmatism. theres nothing really wrong with your eyes. if there was, you would know it because he would have told you. maybe you dont see as well as you could, but thats it.
