recently i have been thinking alot and i'm confused (which isn't unusual) most of our lives we are led to beleive that Adam and Eve were the first humans on this earth as when god created the earth he made man and woman, now the part i'm confused about is we have also been told we evolved from the Apes, so who was here first? Adam and Eve or the Apes? or could Adam and Eve be Apes? see i'm confused again....lol

O.K. I havr read some of the arsehole answers you have been given and I'm sure you will put them in your trash folder.
All the scientific evidence shows that a human type animal and an ape type animal lived side by side for many thousands of years before going their separate ways. So an Adam and Eve type human and the various ape types are not too far away from the 'story' that is told in Genesis. Don't forget, thses stories were told to a people who had no concept of 'the begining' and it had to be put in child like terms for them to understand. Unfortunately, there are people today who stiil regard these stories as undeniable truth. Sad but true.

Don't take the story of Adam and Eve too literally. Do you think that God created just one male and on female of everything?
The story of Adam and Eve is the history of the Jewish race. There is direct lineage from Adam to David (40 generations) and from David to Christ (40 generations).
The idea of the Earth being created in 6 days is better viewed as 6 time periods or stages. First the Big Bang. Then the stars, planets etc, light and dark as planets started orbiting around stars. Then... you know the rest, but it is funny when scientists tell us that life started in the oceans which only confirms the Biblical explanation. Mankind came last and out of all the humans, God chose Adam and Eve as the example for others to follow, but humans being humans they made a right pig's ear of it.

Well, when you are thinking about the real world, it was the apes, when you want to take a leap of faith with absolutely no evidence (which can be fun, no matter what other people tell you, though I am not really into it myself) then believe in Adam and Eve.

Btw, evolution is right. I see there are many on Y!A who don't think so, making this a strange place.

Who is this "WE" you refer to and when did adam and eve become the first man and woman on earth (is this just because a few thousand years ago some people wrote a book)? what's going to happen when our civilization fails and someone finds a copy of Penthouse, Slaughterhouse-5 or even a copy of MAD magazine? Do you believe just the things you're told or are you a free thinker? Read everything, devour all material and make your own deciscions. There are a lot more religions much older and wiser than the christ text.

The bible is a moral (or unmoral) book not a history book.

The bible teaches us how to behave, how to live in society etc.

The world is millions years old. Life on earth started millions of years ago. Adam and Eve story is only 6,000 years old. Humans are defiantly here through evolution from an ape type humanoids.

I believe in sense and science and not in Faith and fiction!!!

Well, Adam & Eve had 3 boys, Cain and Abel and, later, Seth. Cain killed Abel so that leaves 1 woman and 3 men. Seth however goes off to build a city - wonder who lives in it?...... So, even if Cain and Seth had sha**eg their mum on a regular basis, there wouldn't be enough people for a population and, due to inbreeding, the gen pool would be inadequate and the race would die out.

Then....

there's NO evidence whatsoever for the existence of Adam and Eve (or Cain, Abel and Seth). There's masses of evidence for the development of lower apes into primates and, eventually into several strains of humanoid. The culmination of that development is Homo Sapiens - MAN. Believers in Adam and Eve however, probaby dropped out of the evolutionary development around the time of neanderthal man :-)

Some of these answers scare me. Do people REALLY believe the Adam and Eve story? Just shows what a bit of brain washing can do to a society.

Adam and Eve is a story written a couple of thousand years ago. It's one of those comfort stories. It explains the unexplainable.

But since then, we learnt about science and the universe and we now know better. We no longer require a myth to explain where we came from and what our origins are.

Love is the ANSWER.

Alogoricly speaking Adam and Eve were the first "humans" but remember that the bible is written from stories told for hundreds of generations before they were written down. these "stories" were told to guide Man in its quest to become whole and to "establish" a path to higher enlitenment. If you look at the bible for what it is then you see that yes God did create man (adam and Eve) and he gave them refuge in the garden of eden. it is not the creation that we need to question it is the time that that creation took. For God. (The original teller of the story) all of Creation took seven days. For Man (The Creation,Hearer of the Story and Image of God but not God) Creation is still happening and there for when we look at Apes we can say that yes it is possible that we evolved from apes but that does not mean that it wasn't a plan set in motion millions of years ago to us but just a day ago by he who knows no bounds and has been and forever will be.God

The people who told you about the apes are different people. They don't believe in Adam and Eve.

Adam and Eve is a story you were told in Sunday school. Some people never develop their minds any further and continue to believe in Adam and Eve even as adults.

Run from these types of people as fast as you can.
