If it was ever introduced, would you be for or against and what crimes should be applicable?

Is the tax payer's dollar being wasted keeping people like Ivan Milat and Martin Bryant?

Interested to hear your thoughts. Cheers

Thanks Aussieblond for your answer - the way death row is currently handled o/s, it costs tax payers a fortune, that could easily be rectified

I am against it.

Yes certain crimes are so repulsive that sometimes my impulse is to say "kill the SOB".

However when I calm down I can see that it is more punishment to lock them up for the rest of their life. It is a slow merciless punishment. Death brings finality and they suffer no more.

Also I am aware of cases where it has been proven post-death that innocents have been caught up in the death penalty system. To me that is the flip side which I can't get past.

erm yeh cause death row is sooooo cheap.........(take a look at what death row costs tax payers hun)

i do believe in death penelty for a case that is beyond a shadow of doubt - however this is almost impossible these days as it comes down to who has the best legal team and not who is innocent........if you look at american history of death row, there is plenty that have been killed and then later proven innocent, so that system works well doesnt it?! One worth looking at right now is The West Memphis Three, Damien Echols has sat on death row for about 10+ years now and there is plenty of proof that he is innocent and no proof that he is guilty........would you like to have it on your conscience that an innocent person was killed on death row????

G'day I am totally against the death penalty and while my taxes are paying to keep someone in jail gets up my nose I still wouldn't want the death penalty here in Australia.

I believe jails are to soft and that we need to get tougher then maybe we would not have so many people in jail

We express our abhorrence at the crime of killing a person by killing a person. Makes sense to some people, I suppose.
