yeah, I've heard they don't bark unless necessary.
This is quoted from the Shiba Inu breed profile "This territorial nature is what makes the Shiba very good at being a watch dog. They are normally quiet dogs and will not bark unless there is something to bark at."
My neighbor's Shiba only barks when other dogs go past his balcony, other than that I never hear him bark at all.

Shibas bark. They were bred to be hunting dogs and excellent watchdogs so a great bark was essential. I think you may be thinking of the basenji that yodels more so than barks. Here is some more info on shibas: http://www.akc.org/breeds/shiba_inu/index.cfm

All dogs bark no matter what you were told... Sorry you just cant get a dog that barks because that is a way that they comunicate with people and eacother

Fae Goddess are right the Benji,s doesn't bark and the way their owners follow them on a hunt is to tie little bells around their necks to follow them in cases where the dog cant be seen I have been in north africa and seen it first handed. About your dod yes they do

I had two and they barked. Not a lot but they did. You may be thinking of another breed.

the only breed of dog that Ive heard of that DOESNT bark are Besenji's....they howl & kinda yodel but do not bark
