I live in Los Angeles. He's from Japan and wants to go to Magic Mountain and Santa Barbara, but I don't want to do those because I don't like fast rides and Santa Barbara is too far. What are some things we can do in LA that are alot of fun? Activities, places, stuff like that. Thanks!!!

~~ Here's something someone from Japan should LOVE!

~~ Take them to a studio OTHER than Universal. I know Paramount and Sony have tours, but not sure about the other lots. I do this for my relatives when they come into town - it always goes over well. They get to see much more of a real working lot in action, and usually get to see/ visit shows in production, which means high probability of star sightings. It works even better if there happens to be a major film shooting on the lot when they are visiting.

~~ But , you know, it is their visit, so maybe you should just suck it up and take them to Magic Mountain = )

Also ~ Universal Citywalk. LACMA, MOCA, Getty, 3rd St. Promenade, Beverly Center, Natural History Museum, Arboretum, Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Strip, Peterson Automotive Museum, Olvera Street, a Galaxy game - and too many great restaurants to mention!

~~ My two cents...

Since you live here, you know there are a million things to do, so sometimes it's hard to narrow it down. Here are some possibilities:

Instead of Santa Barbara for the beach, head down to Orange County one day. Have lunch at Ruby's on the Balboa Pier, shop at South Coast Plaza, stop by the Bower's Museum if you have time.

Go to Disneyland and California Adventure. There are some fun, but tame, roller coasters, and it is very American, which is what my Japanese friends always seem to want. You can have a nice day, nice food, nice shopping.

The third day could be things like Olvera Street, Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, Santa Anita Race Track, or the LA County Fair (if it's in September). Check out the Calendar section of the LA Times for more local ideas. Or head over to The Grove and Farmers Market, and then get tickets to a TV show taping.

Have fun!

Jeez there's a lot... Hollywood, Universal Studios/City Walk, Santa Monica Pier, 3rd Street Promenade, Venice Beach, Dodger game...
If he's into roller coasters, then you should definitely take him to Magic Mountain though. Japan's coasters can't compare to the ones we have here (speaking from experience) so he'll totally enjoy it.

Disneyland one day......drive along and around Hollywood, have lunch and or dinner there on day two, and take your guest to Knotts Berry Farm on day three.
