My wife has a year supply of pills, she plans to stop taking them soon so she can get pregnant.

She will have several packs left that will expire before she can use them. I think they expire within a year from now.

What does she do with them? Does she just throw them out?

What kind of question is this? What do you think she should do? It is illegal to sell them or give them to anyone else. Use your bean. Maybe next time she should not purchase her medications is such large quantities.

Do you have a homeless hospital to donate them to? Can you donate them to a low income place? Some other places will take these to other contries and they will use them. Look into donating these. They are very expensive and it would really help out someone homeless or in a foreign country look into donation there are so many people who cannot afford medication these days and they would be so grateful for these. Health care for homeless people would be good. Giving them to a low income place would be good. A regular pharmacy will have to toss these because they are responsive for discarding these, but a doctor who works with low income people may be able to use these for a poor person.

If you do not want to donate them you can give them to your local pharmacy and they will have them incernerated. If you do discard of them make sure you do so in a safe way so no children or animals get poisoned. If you flush medications you can contaiminate the water supply so contact your local toxic waste on proper disposal.

Keep them, or if she has a friend who wants them, give them away. Mine were expired after I had my baby, by a couple of months, but my doctor told me to go ahead and use them. I was told that they are still just as effective for at least a year past their expiration date. I used mine until I ran out (several months) and I'm not pregnant again! :)

As long as she is sure about not taking them, she can throw them out. I am a horrible pack rat and I would keep them in case I change my mind and throw them out at or after the expiration date.

yeh just throw them away. I am rather surprised that she was given a years supply though because usually you only get a max of 6 months supply and then have to go back for a check up and new script.

Maybe she can ask the doctor or pharmacist if the expiration date can be extended. He can have his office call the manufacturer to check. If not, then she can hand them over to them for disposal.

Throw them out. It's illegal for anyone else to take them and you don't want her to take expired pills because who knows what it might do to her hormones.

In my town their is a Christian health clinic that provides free medical care for those who cannot afford it. I have heard that they accept unused medication from hospitals and nursing homes. Although I am not sure if a clinic like this can accept from private donors, you could always check with a local charitable clinic in your area.

In the US, medicine is considered hazardous waste and should be disposed of properly. Contact your local pharmacy or municipality and ask how to dispose of the meds. DO NOT flush them down the toilet or sink.
