I get rather offended when people use the gay steriotype to define things. Also when they use rumors, or myths to base answers on. WHY?!?!? And just for the record, it is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to be turned gay. And just because some people enjoy alternate joys in the bedroom, does dictate their sexuality. And ANYONE who gives the reason "Your gay" as an answer should have they're account banned. End of Rant

im guilty i say 'thats gay' or ' what a fag?' and its mean and it sounds horrible, but i have nothing against homosexuals. i love everyone. its just that in a society where words like gay are used to describe someting people forget what they really mean and that they can be hurtful. i am sorry and for you i will try my hardest to stop using gay as an alternative word for stupid.

stereotypes aren't always wrong. i am also gay but i don't exactly fit into most of the stereotypes. it is wrong to assume that anyone is anything based on stereotypes. for example it would be wrong to assume that an asian is good at math. however stereotypes do not spring from nothing. they come from a notice of a common trend sometimes connected but not intrincically. look at homosexuakity and the liberal party. the magority of gays are liberal, but that doesn't mean that agay can't be a conservative. still, while it is wrong to assume a stereotype true of an individual, it would not be wrong to assume it of the majority, if that is in fact the case. the reson why those looking for answers reffer to the stereotype is because it is all they have. many of the questions pertain to identifying homosexuality in someone and, because homosexual can be hidden (and unfortunately many of us feel the need to becuse of the oppressive conditions in which we live) people turn to stereotypes to help them determine. technically, just because man has had sex with a man does not mean they are gay. they could just be a confused, (possibly intoxicated) horny straight guy with an open mind and curiosity, but in general, having sex with other men is a pretty ood sign that someone is gay. it is wrong to use a stereotype but sometimes that is all you have to work with.
personally, i am less disappointed with the answers then the questions, if someone other than yourself is gay, no matter how much you love them and want to help, you need to let them come to you, not seek after them. their sexuality is a personal journey, one which you should not enter uninvited.

Because it's still not generally accepted in the world. It's still a taboo subject. Gay people still have to fight for their civil rights that they want to have. Just like African-American people had to fight for their (my) rights. It takes time for society as a whole to accept things that they don't understand or things that go against the grain so to say.
Until it's more accepted people will continue to get away with stuff like that. Even years (lets say 50 years down the line) when gay people have the respect they want they will still have to endure persecution.

Get used to it and arm yourself with truth, fact, resources and research.
You won't shut everyone down who uses such stereotypes, but at least you can feel better knowing the truth, which they are scared of.
I've delt with this for many more years darlin', it's just something that happens and you can't always combat it.
You'll have to learn to pick your battles wisely and know what you're getting into before you do.
Keep fighting the good fight, one day we will gain our equality.

Don't think many people are going to "get it"...
The reason people say such stupid things is because they're idiots. Plain and simple. It's probably never going to change, but the good news is we'll always be able to laugh at them for being so damn dumb!

well said. for years i've had to put up with idiots as highschool using you're gay as a "witty" comeback for something. and have you noticed that it's rarely ever grammatically correct. unless they're saying that someone has a homosexual person in their possession. people need to grow up.

I agree on some terms, but saying "you're gay" is not derogitory of one's sexual preference, rather a slang which has been adopted like "you're stupid" or "you're retarded." Not the literal mentally retarded, or the literal gay, but a metaphor for other meanings.

Homosexuality is a disgusting anal and excrement fetish, and the gay stereotypes (learn to spell) are more or less correct. Quit butt-humping before your sphincter is totally destroyed and you become incontinent for the rest of your life. You're gay. End of rant.
