Don't even try it. If you were lucky enough to put the vehicle on the policy, the company will find out at some point you don't own it, and will tell you they won't insure it, or cancel you, or something. Plus, that borders on fraud or misrepresentation, which, if you have a claim, might violate your policy. Bad idea! Too bad you weren't driving the car on the night of his DUI.

RE Can i get insurance on my name...but my boyfriends car?
Registration is coming up, for my boyfriends car. He has a DUI on his record, so he's unable to drive as it is, I'm the one who drives his car. I was wondering if I could get my insurance to cover his car since I'm the one who drives it even though I'm not the registered owner. And would DMV (in california) acknowledge it?

You can but i don't think that a very good idea to get insurance for someone else car in your name even if you drive because the car is not really yours.

You do not own the car, therefore you have no insurable interest in the car. The only way to do this is to get him to either sell the car to you (for a $1.00) or simply sign the title to you. The vehicle must be owned by you to have the insurance in your name.

The Insurance would have to be in his name, BUT on the policy, he can be listed with you as the primary driver and he can be the excluded driver on the policy. This way, it will be legally insured w/o the surcharge that would come from his DUI.

Sure would. Your policy will make you sign a waiver saying he cant drive it, but the insurance goes for the car.. he can own it and not drive it.

You are about to play with a live snake. DO NOT DO THIS. Tell your deadbeat-drunk boyfriend to get two more jobs and pay the higher costs to insure. If you carry out your (I mean your boyfriends) plan, you are rolling the dice -- and they are loaded.
