My 1 yr old daughter came home from my MIL's last week with a sore throat. I took her to the dr and they gave me some antibiotics for her and then I started to feel sick a few days later. So i went back and got some antibiotics myself. She fine now but I'm still feeling bad. My tonsils are really swollen and have white patches that almost cover them and my lymphnodes are swollen in my neck . I also have a fever and sweat constantly. Anyone know why I'm not responding to the antibiotics like my daughter did?

You may have a bacterial infection which is immune to the anti-biotics. This is quite common when one person is taking them, and transmits it to someone else.

Theoretically, your body should eventually clear the infection up itself, without antibiotics. If you try this, here are some things to help relieve the pain:

-Swill dissolved asprin in the back of your throat. This should give a few hours relief.

-Make a warm drink, consisting of hot water, lots of lemon juice, and lots of honey. This often helps my sore throats.

-Eat spoonfulls of honey. It's a natural antibiotic. Probably wont clear it up, but it will make it feel much better.

-Swill salty water in your throat several times a day. It wont stop it hurting, but the salt will kill the bacteria. It's not pleasant but might be worth a try.

Failing those options, the only thing you can do is go back to the doctor and get him to prescribe you a broad spectrum antibiotic like amoxcyllin. Attempt that for the course, and if they are still giving you trouble, Id think surgery might be the only other option.

I hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like you might now have Strep Throat, which might require a different type or stronger antibiotic. Either way it is probably best to go back to the doctor right away.

Stay hydrated. Also, if what you have is a virus, antibiotics won't help anyways, so I usually say if it's not gone in a week, see the doctor. Also, the depo-medrol (steroid) shot works wonders in decreasing a swollen throat.
