I think it's a great question. I think it's funny that so many wouldn't want their children pledging to Buddha or Allah or other "false Gods" but they think it's fine to make children pledge to the Christian God.
Apparently, what's good for the goose is NOT good for the gander.
sally, maybe I read your answer wrong but... You are offended that your children learn about evolution? Do you get offended when they learn about math or english? Should every answer be 'God did it'? Intelligent design is for mythology class and has no place in a science class until there is sufficient scientific evidence. IMO.
P.S. To everyone claiming that our nation was founded on Christianity. Actually, it was founded on FREEDOM. That includes freedom of religion. I would expect a Vet especially to know and defend that. The thing that makes our country great and seperates us from every other free country is our FREEDOM. To be who you want and worship as you see fit. Not be forced into a government sponsored religion.
The whole God line in the pledge was introduced in 1954, not exactly when this country was founded. It was due to a communism scare, NOT religious principles.

I'm a Christian and I agree with you. Now, as a Christian, I admit I think everyone else should be. :) The truth is, though, that not everyone is and the United States Constitution says in Article I of the Bill of Rights, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." And it does seem to be that having "Under God" in the Constitution infringes upon the "establishment of religion" clause. Of course, I'm not a Supreme Court Justice, that's just my opinion.

Why might I pledge allegiance to my relatives? The pledge isn't giving your allegiance to a guy yet on your flag and your united states. i'm by no skill going to grant allegiance to the different united states different than the rustic. Why would not I say it? And why would not American infants discover ways to assert it? this isn't any longer that long. this is trouble-free to income. It provides them a feeling of historic previous. i'm stunned our left leaning faculties even have the pledge. it is going to possibly be banned quickly. somebody might get indignant. And we will not have that.

I'm an atheist and I would be offended. We should be pledging allegiance to our NATION, not a god or other deity. And pledging allegiance to our nation has nothing to do with religion. I know some religions forbid pledging allegiance to anything but their god, but I don't think one has anything to do with another. Does that mean that come wartime, the people in that religion would not fight to protect our nation?
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Well, according to them, Allah is the same as God, so to them it should be the same.
I don't believe that Allah is the same God as mine so that makes a diffrence to me. I would never pledge allegiance to Buddha, he is not a god. People have the freedom to choose not to say the Pledge and I respect that.

Not anymore than being forced to pray to Allah five times a day, and be looked upon as a second class citizens by Muslims.
I would feel my rights infringed when I am unable to do what I want when it is their month of fast. be able to dress as I wish, and look upon as nothing more than infidel.
Now how would that feels to you? just a tip of the ice berg!

They already do. They are forced to learn about "evolution" and if they don't participate and do their homework even though they don't agree they fail. Yes, we are offended as christians and are rights
are infringed upon. It is illegal not to go to school. At least you
are not graded on the Pledge of Allegience!

i just wanted to make the point that it doesn't say "one nation under christ" it says under god, so it isnt really religiously specific. i suppose the only ones that should be upset about it are the atheists. but no one really forces you to say 'god' when saying the pledge. you could easily say one nation under _____. and just fill it in with whatever makes you happy and no one would even notice. :)

Personally, if I was a Christian, I would fear people 'believing' in 'God' who had no idea what they were talking about.
Shouldn't religions be concerned with people first and foremost *understanding* their religion? If you have a population of people who are clueless all calling themselves 'Christians' haven't you pretty much wrecked your own religion in an effort to spread it to others?
