You attack formula feeders and claim to give your baby the best, but from the questions you answered, it appears that you smoked while you were a lactacting mommy. So, here's my question...is that the best parenting you can do?
Don't give me the crap that smoking and breastfeeding is better than smoking and formula feeding. If you truly cared for your child, you would not smoke at all.

Brenda B: This is for a different Brenda B. If you search her name you will find her.

Actually, my point is that smoking at all is worse than formula feeding. If you don't believe me, ask your child's pediatrician. Also, if you are breastfeeding, you are lactating. That is what it is called. And by the way, yes, you are an animal. As we all are.

That woman is a circus freak. I also read her answer where she smoked while she was lactating. I don't care if she smoked outside, away from the child. She's still smoking!!! Isn't it true that when you breastfeed, most babies want to nurse every 2 - 3 hours (at least initially)? I highly doubt that smoking after she feeds her kids would make it any less harmful or make any less nicotene show up in her milk. Nicotene stays in the body *3 days* after they quit smoking. What makes it leave breastmilk so fast?

You know, I feel sorry for her kids, honestly. Not just because their mother smells like an ash tray to them, but also because if she's this fanatical about breastfeeding, what else is she a fanatic about? God help her kids...

I think that Brenda B is a little misguided. Maybe she is trying to encourage breast-feeding, but nobody wants to be bullied and abused in the manner she is delivering her message. There is nothing socially superior about breast-feeding or bottle-feeding, therefore it shouldn't come to labeling, put-downs, or classifying one person or another on their decision of how to feed their children. As long as the babies get sound nutrition, can't we all just get along?

While breast-feeding a baby is best and most natural, bottle-feeding formula is good nutrition too. They are so many medical, mental, personal, cultural reasons that parents consider when making the choice of how they feed their babies.

It really is a personal choice. I think we should all stick to facts and be civil about feeding babies. What nurtures a baby most is the love and guidance they recieve throughout life. Remember, "a man cannot live by bread alone." Or milk for that matter. Be it from the breast or not.

Hey I second the breastfeeding and smoking thing. I dont smoke, but I taugth smoking cessation classes and breastfeeding classes. I didnt read what brenda said but what you said she is right. Formula contains "high fructose corn syrup" or HFCS which is responsible for lots of diabetes cases in children and young adults. It causes insulin resistance which can cause diabetes and poly ovarian cyst syndrome. Breastmilk is thought to have over 1000 different chemicals that havent completely been discovered exactly what they are yet. It changes month to month based on the childs age and needs. Studies have shown it has actually changed for a special needs child. On average the IQ of a breastfeed baby goes up 10%. If your formula feeding its not too late. People whos baby is 6mths old and never bf used "reglan" which causes you to start lactating. You would have to go to a certified breastfeeding educator, not a pediatrisian who are idiots on the matter. We are not saying your a bad person, just that breastfeeding is the absolute best thing for your child. Its just a fact, and most moms dont want to try. Less than .5 of 1% of the population just cant do it,yet the majority buy formula. If we didnt have to purchase this formula for wic babies we could feed thousands of starving elderlly or pay for their prescriptions. Its a totoal waste of government money.

Actually, formula feeding has advanced in the last few years, and it's actually very good for the little kiddos. I have 3, all under 5 and I tried to breastfeed but my milk would never fill them up. I had to put them on formula. And there is nothing wrong with them!

I have to admit, drinking and breastfeeding is better than drinking and formula feeding any day. So what's a little fetal alcohol effect, at least he's breastfed.

Ok I found your question. Yeah, i smoked, not while I was lactating, I'm not an animal, but when I was breastfeeding. And if you read my response to that question, as it's obviously you have, you would know that I smoked after I breastfed and not before.

You might think it's crap but smoking and breastfeeding is much better than smoking and formula feeding. When you smoke and formula feed you are giving your baby crap and topping it off with crap, but when you breastfeed you care about your baby enough to not smoke around it or smoking after your baby is fed.

I'd like to know what is your point here? I'm assuming you are trying to bring me down to your level somehow? Nice try sweetcheeks...not working.
