The other day my vet gave me Sebalyt to use on my guinea pigs. It's basically a dog and cat shampoo, but it has salicylic acid, sulfur, and triclosan in it. It's also soap free, and has special conditioners for fur. So, I also have really bad dandruff and just wanted to know if it was possible for me to try the shampoo. I think it'd really work...but, clearly, I don't want to be bald.

umm...
some of you can be really rude. for no reason. people use mane n tail all the time and it started out for horses. bag balm and that other udder cream are amazingly popular moisturizers...both for cows. it's not so out of the box to use animal products. And clearly, i've tried other shampoos. And not too many of them come with salicylic acid, triclosan, and sulfur. If you know of a human shampoo that does...please feel free to share. And if you aren't going to provide a useful answer...it's easy to get points answering a question that you might actually know about.

U better not use it...there might be chemicals that would harm your hair.

interesting...

You could, though dandruff usually is cured by a shampoo with a high amount of zinc-oxide, which reacts with the fungus (if you didn't know, severe dandruff is caused by fungus.) and destroys it.

In answer to your question, you could use pet shampoo, and you won't go bald. However it is not advisable, and please read the label for any danger signs.

As for the dandruff problem, try this:

Use a dry shampoo
blowdry your hair after every wash
change your pillow cases and bedsheets once a week or more frequently.

you could always google "homemade dandruff remedies" and follow one of the recipies.

Hope that helped.

I accidently used my dog's shampoo once. My hair didn't fall out or anything, but it was no better than usual. I don't think it would hurt anything, but then it might make things worse. Why don't you just get some Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo? It's jjust for dandruff.

Why don't you just go to the drug store and by your own "human" shampoo? Next you're going to ask if its allright if you can eat your guinea pig's pellets.

Personally I wouldn't, even if the ingredients are the same. Try Selsun Blue. I think it probably wouldn't hurt, but why risk it?
