OK. Who is in the wrong? The person that does not empty their pockets before throwing their dirty clothes in the dirty clothes basket at the end of the day or the person that does not check the pockets before throwing the clothes in the washer? My husband and I bicker about this all the time!!!!

If HE puts them in the hamper..It's HIS fault.
If YOU put them there or more likely pick them up off the floor, dresser, etc (like my wife does LOL) then the responsibility would be yours.
Keep the money, hopefully there are some bills.
Tell him it's 'gone'.
He will start checkin'.

May I assume it is your husband who is leaving items in his pockets when he puts his dirty clothes in the basket? There are two ways of handling this. Leave the items in the dirty laundry basket unless you can see that the pockets have been turned inside out or you can empty the pockets and put the items in a safe place until he actually misses them (his wallet? his car keys? his loose change?) I think he will get the message pretty quick.

If you keep doing it for him he will let you do it. If you stop doing it then he will realize that emptying his pockets is his responsibility....especially when he has no clean pants and all his loose change and his car keys have disappeared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I refused to wash any of my husband's socks that weren't placed into the hamper -- he thought the floor was a fine place to leave them. When he ended up not having clean socks for work one day he woke up and started being responsible for his own things.

Empty out your pockets before putting clothes into the hamper. For any items left in pockets, will become the prorety of the washer (person doing laundry) mainly if it is money! That will usually get them to empty the pockets first.

I'd say the person who is throwing the clothes in the washer. I washed my husband's pen ONCE, that was all it took for me to start checking the pockets. Plus, sometimes you get a little extra tip in the pocket...like a $20 bill.

The person who does not empty their pockets. Its their clothes, whats it gonna hurt for them to check whats in their pockets before taking them off. Plus, if the person doing the laundry is not the wearer, they are already doing the other person a favor by washing their clothes.

Oh I would say that he is in the wrong.. my husband and I argue about the same thing.. But my rule around here is that whatever money is left in pockets and I find it is mine.. He checks every now and then because let's just say once he left enough cash in his pockets that I was able to buy a new outfit on him.. LOL

Other laundry Pet Peeve I have is that my husband and kids leave their socks turned inside out! aaaaaah!

FOR SURE the person who does not empty their pockets....who is the one doing the laundry???? geez, he can do it himself if he doesn't want it to happen anymore...my bf does that all the time but he doesn't get annoyed about it...i told him he better take the crap outta his pockets before i do laundry or he might just have a few broken/washed items come out of his pockets lol...oh and another pet peeve is when he turns his pants/socks inside out so i have to reverse it before i fold it!!!!! can't live with 'em can't live without 'em... ;)

I used to forget to empty my pockets when I threw my clothes in the wash until my mom started keeping the money that she would find when she would do the laundry. I almost never forget now. And I do my own clothes.

I'm guilty of not emptying my pockets before throwing my clothes in the hamper all the time. If its paper, and it gets all over everyone's clothes in the wash, i'm at fault, and have to shake the bits off all the clothes... if its money, who ever left it in their pockets, pretty much loses it unless they claim it quickly.
