There are other options besides dips... what type of mange was it? E-mail me and I'll help you the best I can.

Ivermectin can be used to treat mange mites... talk with your vet about using it as a topical or as an oral dosing... while small doses of ivermectin orally are generally safe for a pregnant dog, it can cause problems, and treating mites with it requires daily use... as a topical it is much safer, but please don't use it without discussing how to apply it, how much to apply, and any possible risks with your vet. Also discuss with him using it orally, I'm not 100% on toxicity concerns of daily use in pregnant dogs.

My dogs picked up sarcoptic mange from the vet's office. We bought happ Jack mange medicine. We had to dip them several times before they got rid of the mites. It is dangerous to use something like this on a pregnant dog. Yes, it could cause her to abort the pups or they may be born with deformities. Poor baby. Hope she will be okay.

I'm so sorry to hear of this situation. Unfortunately, not treating the mother will result in the mom suffering and subsequent infection of the pups but treating the mom with paramite may cause irreparable damage and or death to the pups. Here is a site touting a safe treatment for pregnant dogs although I have no experience with this product myself so please research a little.

This is another wonderful site for information on both kinds of mites: http://www.everydaysolutionsrx.com/mangeeguide.html
Good luck and I sure pray everything works out for mom and pups safely!

My dog had mites when she was a few months old. There is a cream that is rather inexpensive and harmless you can get from your vet, sorry I don't remember the name. I would recommend that to keep it under control until she gives birth, then there is a much more effective shot you can get her. For the chewing, there is a product called "Apple Bitter", which just tastes bad, it won't harm anything. It will stop the sores they sometimes get from chewing so much.
It is curable, I promise. My dog is 18 months now, and mite free for almost a year!

Hello :
Yes i have used a variety of Dips ... When i lived on a farm
we had several dogs , when ever we had a infestation of fleas , ticks , mites and so on; we dip the animals all in one day.
My Dad fix up a large (suitable) tub mix the Dip according to the instructions with water ... mix well and dip the animals .
>exactly that you just dip them quick in and out
> do not leave them in the tub for more then 10 seconds
just dip them and get them out.
>> another method say for just one are two dogs is mix the Dip according to directions in a bucket and then sponge it onto your dog ; make sure that you get'm wet all over and rinse according to the directions. * Important you do not want to leave them in the tub for more than 5 to 10 seconds > with dogs the pads on their feet are like sponges they will quickly absorb the Dip this can and will make your dog very sick and can eaisly kill them ...
just like a overdose of poison ... >The Dip is a bug poison<
> Now using the bucket method just remember to rinse according to the directions ... do not leave the Dip on for very long .... again it can and will make the dog sick.
The Dip used accordinly is very affective to rid of fleas, ticks, mites, and other parasites . ~ Be Safe ~

> In case of overdose> tub method and bucket the first sign is the dog will foam at the mouth , shake & quiver all over, twitch,
wobble and fall down trying to walk . > immediately rince the dog
with a lot of water ...if you have a garden hose squirt the dog very good all over then rush him/her to the vet . take along the Dip container to show vet ; the vet will give the dog a shot that will counteract the poison and probaley send you home with some pills.Remember you have to act fast ; for your dogs sake.

> there are several Dips available at any pet supply store are your local feed store
* Most important > follow directions

Good Luck / O'WyleeDawg

P.S. i do not know how it will effect a pregnant dog

i am sure my brother in law Onslo knows all about those sort of things. of course those of us in the upper classes don't have to deal with that sort of thing.
