WHATEVER YOU DO
dont be a jerk. that would be a dickk move if you suddenly cut her off or was mean. be HONEST as to why you are breaking up. dont use an excuse. tell her the complete truth. believe me, even if its hard, its better than the "i just want to be friends" or "i still love you but i cant be with you" alibis. they will come back to haunt you.
do it in person also. its awful to have a relationship that long end via phone or aol.
try to remember this is going to hurt her A LOT. she will probably cling to you and call for a couple of weeks. if you dont want to remain friends, MAKE SURE SHE KNOWS.
remember also that girls are delicate so try to let her down gently. it may hurt her more now to know everything but in the end she will be glad you handled it so maturely.
good luck kid.

Be a man and tell her exactly where you are with the relationship. She will get over it quickly knowing it came from you. Using the phone or other people to deliver the message, you end up with an enemy instead of a friend.
She might end up all emotional, but she will get over it knowing you face her and tell her the truth. She will come to realize you know longer feel the same towards her and might count her loss and move on.
Face to face man, no phone or letter.

Sit down with her alone....and say what you feel without accusing her or blaming her for WHY it didn't work, but that it's best to move on regardless of the WHY'S.......but speak from the heart. There's no way to not make it hurt. Compassion is the key.

First, don't make her angry or happy before you break up with her. Tell her gently and be kind about it.

Gently but firmly. Don't give her false hope. Don't do it in public.
