All theists would be tortured and told to renounce their faith or die a horrible death. Children would be brainwashed in schools to think that religion is evil and stupid. Freedom of belief would be stamped out and anyone who didn't tout the party line would be suspect. The country would collapse into a morass of sin and debatury and suicide rates would skyrocket alongside drug use and abortion rates.

I believe I shall quote you:

"No, because all dictatorships suck."

Well, Dictatorships in general are a bad thing. I can care less if they are Christian or Atheist. BTW a "Christan Dictatorship" would more properly be called a Theocracy. Everyone should have their freedom of religion (and that means ANY religion!).

I also wonder where you get the idea that if someone does not subscribe to a certain faith, they have no morals? If you look at European countries (some of which do have state established churches, which no one goes to), The rates of suicide, drug use and abortion are much LOWER. Why? Because most European countries have government controlled health care, which is available to anyone regardless of ability to pay. Of course the taxes are much higher. Women have easier access to birth control and there is no stigma attached to it , unlike in the US.
More birth control=Less unwanted pregnancies=LESS ABORTIONS! Wow, what a concept.

If this country became any kind of dictatorship - theist or atheist - then there will be a civil war.

But where the hell do you get your statistics from? More Christians and Muslims commit suicide than any other religon, and the number of atheists in the U.S. pales in comparison to the numbers of combined Christians and Muslims.

And if the only think keeping the country from collapsing, as you describe, is the fear of some God - then God help us. See - that's one of the problems with religion, is that people do or don't do things out of fear.

P.S. Apparently you were FOR the U.S. becoming a Christian dicatorship, as another asked previously, since A) your question is apparenly based off that one and B) you obviously don't like anyone who isn't - particularly atheists.

Must suck for you to be in the U.S., huh?

What are you talking about! The countries that are the most atheist have the lowest abortion rates! Why do you think America would become an anomaly if it become an Atheist country? The drug issue I do have to agree with you on. And freedom of belief would not be stamped out. It would be celebrated instead of the how it is now with religions not only competing against the non-believers but also against other religions.

The question you should be asking is why is this so? What's going on here where the most religious nations are the ones with the most problems? How can we correct it without destroying ourselves?

We're heading toward a Christian dictatorship. Homosexuals will be murdered or jailed, Children denied scientific knowledge (taught that the scientific method is evil and stupid). Human rights including the freedom not to believe are being stamped out and anyone who doesn't follow the party line is being shunted out of any influence whatsoever. And the Christians are still the ones who are visitng the massage parlors, needing treatment for depression and landing in the prisons.

So what was your point again?

what do you mean suddenly it is already heading that way.i believe that all religions have their right to freedom;christians, buhdists, wiccas, mormons, muslims, ALL RELIGIONS. But if you think about it the christians are the ones that are shuned now.in a lot of states even private prayer is either not allowed or shuned.here in fl 6 yrs ago a h.s. sophmore was EXPELLED for the year for praying before a football game in private. The student was a member of the fellowship of christion athletes and was the quarterback of the football team.but at the same time the other religions are allowed ther worship.its just like the under god in the pledge of allegiance.it was removed under the so called seperation of church and state in the constitution.I challenge anyone to show me where it says in the constitution anything about that. It simply states freedom of religion, not absence of religion. This means that I have the freedom to worship when and where I choose to, and every one else has the right to watch, participate, or to look the other way if it bothers them. And I have the right to watch participate or choose to look the other way if what their beliefs are disagree with my beliefs. Thus freedom of religion means that we all have the same amount of rights to believe what we each want. There is no one more right than the other, its simply equality. As for the term seperation of church and state, that was a term used by Thomas Jefferson and in the federalist papers and referred to the government not declaring a national religion as weve seen in many socialist and comunist country.

It's a toss-up whether atheist dictatorships or theocratic dictatorships are worse. Perhaps we can avoid dictatorships altogether by working more to prevent the erosion of our freedoms.

America is less likely to "suddenly become an Atheist dictatorship" than to suddenly sink beneath the waves. Change happens only gradually in a political system such as ours, and it would take a great deal of change for the political culture to shift so far as to accept this. People aren't going to quickly become more brainwashed than they already are ;)

Over dramatic much? Take a pill and a deep breath, no one's going to storm your house demanding you turn your Bible over for burning. It might be a good idea to ask a question in the Politics section that goes something like this: Would someone please explain the meaning of separation of church and state to me so I can stop having nightmares about demon atheists? I am saying a silent thank you right now to the founders for anticipating the never-ending wish of the fanatical religious to force their particular form of moralistic hypocrisy into any government they can get their claws into. Good call guys - here's a big high 5 from a grateful American!

It would abolish alot of hatred. And actually I have found that they have a better sense of ethics!
I really don't think an atheist would want a Dictatorship...so we'd probably end up a communal society.
I think I WOULD be happy...
By the way, I'm Wiccan ; )

Atheist, yes, dictatorship, maybe - if it was a benign one; after all, it can't be any worse than with the crap we have in office now..

Frankly, this country needs more abortions - the more fundies we can abort, the better.

Time for the tin foil hat.

No one is attempting to make the US atheist.
Many are fighting to keep the government secular.

and if you think those are the same thing, then you're an uneducated idiot.

PS: I challenge you to either present data showing a correlation between atheism and suicide, drug use, abortion, or lack of morality. Or, of course, admit that you pulled that out of your @ss while on some kind of ill informed rant that went WAY off target.
