What is the best beach to stay on in Salvador Bahia? We are looking to relax and maybe do some surfing if there are any good surf areas.

The two best beaches are :
Praia de Forte beach
- Ilha de Tinhare (an island)
Salvador is literally surrounded by beaches.

Hi there Dakota,
You seem to very interested in this part of the world so I'll tell what I would suggest. Firstly, I'm not a surfer so I can't recommend the best surf spots, but for relaxation, you really can't beat Morro de São Paulo, an island 30 minutes off the coast of Salvador which has no cars and amazing beaches. There is nothing to do but lay around and take it easy. There are beach parties every night and a small but beautiful little town with all the nice amenities you could want like cafes, bars, restaurants, and Internet cafes. (when I was there two years ago there was no ATM, but there may be now).
