The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Really detailed...very well written..incredibly interesting. Some of the best books i've read.

Eragon and ELdest are quite good , the author is quite young and amazingly did some pretty good work, there is also Poison study by Maria V Snyder,
sorry I am more of a Sci-fi reader

Try some old school... Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series or Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover novels... They are both hidden gems.

Sara Douglass the wayfarer redemption series is good. Charles de Lint is good and if you like spooky too Dean Koonts is good just to mention a few.

Try one of David Eddings' series they are exciting and entertaining. Piers Anthony's Xanath series has some fun entries also.
