All religions are based on a lotta people hearing a lotta voices. If enough other people believe them you have a religion. The most popular religions are those that promise the best deal for the most people. eg, "no matter how bad you screw up you can be saved and live in bliss for ever and ever". The Christians have got a lot of mileage out of that one.
I don't know about insane. Tests of insanity can be very subjective. Usually if enough people think you're OK, and you don't go around killing people, they'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
The Bible had its origins in ancient Jewish folklore. No one started writing it down until about the time of King David. Reason being, most people had no written language until about that time. More was added as different prophets and holy men added their bits.
Jesus was one of those holy men, though his followers claimed he wasn't just hearing God's voice, he was God. Trouble is we have no hard proof of this. Because when he raised himself from the dead, he only appeared to a few of his immediate followers. You think he would have made a brief appearance at the Temple at least. It seems God prefers to leave little clues around, and tells different people different things.

And don't worry, you'll never find truth without offending a few people.

I've often wondered the same thing. Religion in general is very hard to swallow for me. Here is one reason why: I dare anyone to name a war that didn't ultimately start over religion. Apparently, the part about not killing people didn't sink in as well as the part about spreading the word of God (i.e. force feeding YOUR version of God on everyone else).
I have often said that I think the Bible was written by a few guys sitting around trying to find a way to get society to behave. So the idea that someone is up above watching all that you do was the invention of guilt.....or the Catholic religion. I don't mean to offend anyone, just making a point. It was the first pyramid scheme in history. You buy into this, then get two of your friends to sign up, who will get two of their friends, and so on.
I would probably be more open minded about the whole thing but, some of the most "religious" people I have met, are also the biggest hypocrites that I've found. I'm an insurance fraud investigator by trade and the running joke in the industry is the people who end their answering machine message with "have a blessed day"will be the quickest to lie to you for a buck.
I'm not saying that I don't think there is a god. I just plain don't know. But I find it amazing that one book can have litterally hundreds of interpretations. They can't all be right.

If the bible were written by insane people hearing voices, it would have to be by perfect coincidence that the same "insane person" who wrote about the beginning of the world, matched up with the exact same theme written by the "insane person" at the end.
"Insane people" aren't alike, or coincidental....they're insane. Yet, the bible not only explains the future from the present, but explains the past, shows what's going on in the present, coursing all along the theme of salvation.
Go into an "insane asylum" and ask 66 men to write a letter. See if there are an common bonds in these letters aside from the fact that they make absolutely no sense at all. It'll drive you crazy before you're done reading the 3rd letter. Yet the bible proves the test of time over and over again.

good question to me.You watch some of those guys on tv preaching, they are winging it.And winging pays good.Iwatched the history channel about when the bible was written 16th cetury I think. It was decided by alot of people.Roman catholic Ill bet. They just used the best stories from little stories most sects had as myths.
Oh and I did some research once and found the word christ before jesus ment smeared with grime. And back then they would clean them selves with annointing oil.Hence the the grime was removed from jesus by annointing.THE ANNOINTED ONE.Its an old Jewish story but not sure about that, but it works because jesus was a jew.People have visions and turn them into reality.Like the pot smoker said far out man.No spell check

If religion helps mankind to be more human and ethical then only it can be accepted unless it only be regarded trash or written by insane people. When u cut each others throats to propound ur dharma or religion it is not Bible, Koran or Vedas they are just the filth coming out of ur mind.
If u want to check the sanity of Christ go by measuring upon this scale then u will realize the truth. Then u will realize that Christ was not insane but the people who fought for Chrisinity and slit each other throats either for Catholism or protestentism they were not following the sermons as dictated by Christ. They cannot be regarded sane in anyway.

Research the dates the different books of the Bible were written.
Research the hundreds and hundreds of years between the prophecies of Christ's birth, etc. and the fulfillment of these prophesies
It's just scientifically improbable that all these people at all these different times so far apart, having it impressed upon their hearts to write of such things, were insane.
Is it possible make a prediction, (prophecy) have it come true hundreds of years after you die, and then years after the prediction come true people write about it all because you're all hearing insane voices? It would be quite a conspiracy to last since the beginning of time.
Remember it says "we created" in Genesis.

The Bible is unique in that it is one book, but also a series of books written at differenjt points in time.
The historical references made in the Bible are all historically accurate -- just as any other history book and the events are portrayed accurately and can all be counter-referenced against each other for accuracy.
the Bible has yet to be shown to be in error in any aspect of its historical accuracy -- in any piece of it. It is entirely true -- and is the inspired word of God.
If your question is sincere -- it is not at all offensive. If you are serious, it is a really good question -- and my point is that the more research you do to try to prove the Bible inaccurate or false, will only result in you becoming absolutely convinced of its authenticity.
It is an amazing work indeed.
The Way, the Truth and the Light.
We all need its message of salvation.

The New Testament was written by a psycho path by the name of Paul.
Here is a key point.. How come the Jews say that the Messiah hasn't came yet?
The Old Testament holds truth, facts and history all in one book.
The New Testament doesn't.
Christianity came about around 300BC by a occult named the Christ Cult. This cult was very evil and disgusting from a Pagan and Jewish view.
Paul the psycho path took the Christ cult and the smart alack philosopher named Jesus and fused them together to make the Christian religion.
Jesus wasn't crucified on the cross. He was killed just like Socrates was in Greece.
The ideal of murder by Crucifixion came from the Christ cult way before psycho Paul made a religion out of it.
If you don't like my answer, then go to hell!

Even if the people who wrote it were sane, how could it possibly be accurate? It's been translated and retranslated, added to and taken away from so many times, it's probably nothing close to what it was originally. Anyone allowed to edit or translate it could have (and probably did) add their hate, prejudices, and opinions to it, to pass it off as the word of their deity. It's sad. I wonder what the Christian religion would be like if the Bible had actually stayed intact.

It is called faith my friend. To me life is much better believing that the bible is God's inspired word and that He exists. Let me put it to you this way (purely nonconfrontational) What does it hurt for me to believe it is real? Is it in any way infringing on your life or your beliefs? I don't think you are being malicious by this question if you are truly sincere, but why do some people get so offended by my beliefs and choice to follow God-IF I am not trying to push it on anyone?
