I have a 13 month old daughter who has a bottle of formual at breakfast, lunch, supper and bedtime. She drinks water and jiuce from a sippy cup throughout the day. I have tried giving her the formual in a sippy cup and a cup but she takes a sip and sticks her tounge out and refusses to drink, it's like it tastes different from a sippy cut. Anything else I can try? How long should I let her go without drinking any liquid if she refusses to drink her formual from the sippy cup?

Can you blame her? Have you ever tasted formula its the nastiest stuff ever. Have you tried giving her cows milk instead. She might like it better, and shes old enough to switch. Plus you could just throw all the bottles away. They are bad for her teeth

I JUST had this problem with my daughter. She is 13 months old and I decided to take her off of formula. She woke up one morning, and instead of offering her a bottle with formula, I offered her a sippy cup with milk. At first she didn't know what to think, but she didn't have any issues with it. She has been off of the bottle for a week now, and drinks milk, juice and water throughout the day. She has her 3 meals a day, plus 2 snacks...and she doesn't seem to be starving or not getting enough nutrition. In fact, she is growing like a weed!! She was in the 3% for her weight at her 1 year check up. My pediatrician told me to not give formula in a cup, to offer other things so she would be more interested in taking the cup. It would also make the transition from formula to cows milk easier. She was right! She also told me if she had a hard time taking the cows milk it would be OK to mix a small amount of Ovaltine in her cup so shed still get the nutritents from milk and the added vitamins from the Ovaltine. Hope I was a help, good luck!

I would say get her off the formula and get her on whole milk and then go to your local deparment store and find a sippy cup with a soft top. Something that feels like the nipple on the bottle. Throw all of her bottles away and let her know that she has to drink out of the sippy cups now. Don't withhold her liquids from her, water is just as good as formula for her.

After they are a year old, it's safe to transition to cow's milk or soy milk if you want to. It's cheaper and tastes better.

What we did with our daughter is we were really patient. We would offer her a sippy cup in the middle of the day (don't introduce it for the first or last meal of the day). She would of course refuse the sippy cup after trying it. She can't chew on it the way she can the nipple of a bottle. If she gets really frustrated, then give her the bottle. Just keep offering her the sippy cup, slowly offering it at more and more meals. She will get it although it takes a long time.

If you want to try a more aggressive approach, then give her the regular bottle at breakfast and bedtime. Then try giving her the sippy cup at inbetween times and don't give in. She'll get it eventually.

My daughters doc. said to give her whole milk after the age of one. Your daughter is old enough to be off of the formula. If your daughter can drink water and juice from a sippy cup than she certainly can drink milk from a sippy cup. Her reaction to taking the formula maybe her way of telling you she doesnt want it anymore. The best way to transition is to just get rid of the bottles and give her the sippys if she is thirsty enough she will drink the milk. Dont give in and be consistant! She can always drink water. My daughters doctor also said to give her a little strawberry syrup in her milk to add to the taste of it. The strawberry syrup cant hurt her and it helped my daughter transition. Talk to your pediatrician about what is right for your daughter. But I really believe she is old enough to be off that formula!!!

If she is 13 months you can change to whole milk now. There is no reason to continue formula at this age. Try warm milk in her sippy cup and you should never let her go without liquid to get her to drink the milk....... Just immagine yourself explaining to her pediatrician " Well I just didn't realize she would dehydrate so fast.... Yes she wanted to drink but only water and juice so I said No because I know it is important she drinks her milk." She can always take vitamins and eat other dairy to make up the difference .

This is a real problem because she needs to keep her fluids up and the formula gives her the nutrients she needs. Try this. Let her see you pouring the formula from the bottle to the sippy cup. Leave a little formula in the bottle and give it to her. Then when she finishes it, offer her "more" from the sippy cup. Good luck.

My 13 month old does the same thing. I switched to a cup with a straw and now she'll drink her milk from that. She still wants a bottle at night so I am letting her keep that one bottle but will take it away once she's 18 months old. It is very normal for babies to want the milk in a bottle. I think it's just a comfort thing.

There is a cup with a nipple like top that you can get from Meijer that should help your child with the transition. The cup has a silicone top and is square shaped so it is more like a bottle. Sometimes it is not the tast but the texture of the new cup that the baby doesn't like with the formula.

Let her have water and consider making the switch to whole milk (maybe even with the world's greatest bribe...chocolate syrup) or soy milk. Buy some new "big girl" sippies with a favorite character (princess, Dora) that will be for her new big girl beverage. Good Luck
