Seems like a lot of people want to go to seminary so they'll be more spiritual or closer to God. But isn't the Gospel supposed to be simple? Jesus said in Matthew 18:3, "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Wouldn't seminary overcomplicate the message?

Seminary is a place to study the scriptures and prepare for becoming a pastor. The courses involve looking at the history of the church, the interpretations of the bible throughout history, theological theories and discourses, and frequently studying Hebrew and Greek so that the pastor can read the bible in its original languages. Also church business courses are included so that the pastor knows how to manage a congregation, along with pastoral counseling courses.

The idea of becoming like little children does not mean that you suddenly give up your intellect. I don't know of anyone on this site who, upon reading the posts, would say that maintaining faith is simple in the face of all the statements made here.

Seminary is supposed to prepare you to be an effective pastor who is prepared to deal with just about all that comes your way. Without it, how would you deal with a family whose little child has died of leukemia? You learn about how to do that in seminary.

"seminary"....a school people who strive to be pastors usually attend to learn how to write sermons, interpret the Bible, and how to preach the sermons they write.

Please dont get me wrong, I am not putting down seminary at all. I do feel, however, that God does not 'call the qualified' (the people who attend and graduate seminary), but He "qualifies the called"....basically, I believe God will let us know what He wants us to know and how to tell others if we open our hearts to hear Him and we follow His lead.

Seminary does tend to over-analyze some things. In some cases (definitely not all), seminary teaches more of a doctrine than the Word, and some of those instructors are not real open to hearing a message God gave someone else about a particular topic.

I think the point of seminary is to train and equip men and women to be teachers of the Word.

If I had the time, I'd go to seminary just to learn more about God and his word.

You're thinking too hard about it, and therefore complicating it. No, seminary is meant to make your day easier, help you to have the Spirit so you can be like a child. Seminary is there to help you and so are the Seminary teachers. If you're worried, go and talk to one of them. They always help with my problems.

People go to the seminary because they want to preach the word of God andto dedicate their lives to it.What you said about being children to enter the kingdom is absolutely correct, but it implies to all and also peop-le don't go to the seminary just to get closer to God they do so cause they want to serve him completely.

You're right! The answers are simple, but true.

At seminary you have a chance to ask and have answered the questions you have wondered about since you matured as a human being...and in your faith.

Scripture commands us in The letters to Timothy to " Study, to show thyself approved, a workman, unashamed of his task". Seminary, helps educate the leaders of the church, to help equip them to better serve those have given them the responsibility to serve.
