I want to make more toys for my quaker parrot. He's depressed.

I had a quaker once, too. I still do have eight other parrots who go through toys like crazy. Easy and cheap ways to entertain birds are:

*Jute twine (0.50 - $1.00 a reel at most stores)
*Nontoxic tree branches (soft woods that don't splinter easily are favorable)
*Toilet paper rolls (some companies are selling toilet paper roll toys for around 15.00!)
*100% cotton rag and rope toys (synthetics cause crop blockage and maybe even death, so I just use cotton)
*Undyed, untreated leather
*A safely mounted mirror ... He may be lonely!
*When you can, Foster and Smith for Birds (you can order the free magazine online) will sell you a huge bucket of safe wooden beads in three sizes for around $20.

You could drop into the "bird toys and recipes" forum. There are a lot of cool ideas in there. We mostly show off pictures of our birds and ask for advice, and you can find a category about every bird problem under the sun.

give him whole carrots, bake him some hard bread sticks. anything that he can't break is probably ok, as is most unvarnished wood, although, you won't get those back
