I would drink loads of beer washed down with a few shorts of vodka, then you will not care about how much salt is in it, lol but as you would have read, put a raw spud in to the pot as it will reduse the taste of salt

Go with the "potato" idea, NOT the "adding more broth/water" idea. If your soup is seriously over-salted, doubling the amount will simply give you twice as much over-salted, unusable soup as before.
As far as simply drinking beer and vodka until you don't care about the salt. Bad idea again. The amount you will need to drink before you can't notice an over-salted soup is about the same amount as it takes to render a human unconscious........

Try putting a couple of large peeled potatoes in the soup to "draw" the salt. My mother swears this works and she should know, she double salts everything !!!
Or try stretching out the soup recipe .... make twice as much or three times until it tastes right........ freeze the extra.

If you over salted your soup, cut up a potato and throw it in. The potato will absorb the salt and then later remove the potato before eating...unless you like really salty potato soup.

I would add more water or some milk depending on the base. I know when you are making pasta sauce a good way to counter too much salt is with a couple of teaspoons of sugar and some pepper - if its super spicy no one notices the salt content :) but seriously dilute it with liqids.

Put dry potato flakes in it. It will soak up the salt and thicken the soup.

Put in raw potato chunks. Then take them out and throw them away as they soak up the salt.

the whole potato thing doesnt work. get a bigger pot and double the recipe, but dont add any more salt! add more brothh and veggies to dilute the salty flavor.
