Yes hubby worked with one..its kinda like the interperter is not trusted by the Americans and are seen as a traitor to their own people.

LOL!! There isn't a such thing as a safe base in Iraq!!! Even the green zone gets mortored from time to time. Besides, everyone has to leave the base eventually.
Also, you would be too valuable to be cooped up in a camp. You would probably be out on patrol with some infantry cats.

Missiles and bombs do not hit targets at all times and this scenario is the only threat to non-combantants. Nevertheless, an Arabic interprester does not have direct contact with the enemy and he is safe in Iraq. Danger is minimal.

There no telling that you would be working in the green zone. You are also the ones that have to speak for the troops on the ground. So there is a good chance that say you can get tagged with an MP squad heading out and you are the ones that would have to speak to the locals....

There is no "safe" base in Iraq.

You can get attacked anywhere in Iraq. But if your not specifically looking for action you should be ok. I've heard of Infantry units going over there and only firing their rifle once, or none.
