Dont read the Bible,

You need to read entire chapter. (Enter into the strait gate: for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go there into. Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth to life, and few there be that find it.) Jesus said this. It means just as it reads. It can't be more simple.

Matthew 7:13 is the closing section of the sermon on the mount. It is talking about two ways in life, two choices. There are two gates, two different dirrections. In christ's sermon he is pointing out there is a choice you can choose the right or the wrong way. Its your choice. The gate to truth, to heaven... the right path is hard at times. The wrong path is easy and its really easy to get there and most choose this path. Take the hard road, the one you have to work for in the end this will prove the greatest reward

I would say it means you have to watch and pray all the time that you don't fall into temptation. There are alot of temptations just waiting to get a grasp on us. We live in a world FULL of sinners, we were born sinners ourselves, but we have to die to this corrupt world and it's ways. There are many, many ways to fall short and sin, sometimes we sin and do not even realize it. It is by constant prayer that you can walk the straight and narrow path that leads to Heaven. The Bible also states that Hell will have to widen it's mouth, not a place I want to go.

i would like to punch the first person who answeres this i think it means the gates of heaven are huge so its easy to go straight through but the path is narrow so it is hard to say on it and the way to sin is very broad and easy to see so stay away from it and stay on the path

Taken on face value, it means that either a lot more people are going to Hell than Heaven or that it's a more attractive way for some.

It's easy to live for yourself, to not live your life in the way that Jesus instructed. Sinning is easier than abstaining and living by faith. A lot of people will go that way. Fewer will live their lives following God.

I have always taken it to mean that if what you're doing seems really easy and society isn't fighting you on it you are probably making bad choices that may lead to sin.

The gate Jesus was referring to is life. Everyone wants to live their own life and kick God out of it. When you willingly make a lifelong choice of rejecting God you are saying to Him that its your life and He has no say over it. Jesus is saying to us that our choices in this life are bigger than we think. When someone tells God to leave them alone they are in fact saying that even if I choose to go to Hell, its my choice. God respects our choices. God also says that Hell is not His choice for them. He hates the thought of it but, he'll respect our choices even if He severely disagrees with them. Even if they lead us to destruction or death, a physical and a spiritual one.

it is easier to follow the road to hell, and it goes on to say the way to heaven is narrow. it may look easy and tempting to follow the wrong the path, but it is bad!
