Ridiculously broad question: I'd say Stout is my short answer -
1) Sheaf Stout, from Australia - dry stout, not sweet, great finish. My favourite beer ever.
2) Sapporo Black - from Japan, hard to find in the US, but worth the search - another dry stout, very crisp and clean
3) Beamish - nice stout for a hot day, not too syrupy or sweet
4) Guinness - the standby, the one I drink the most because it is available everywhere, a little too sweet
But I have favourite Ales, Lagers, Pale Ales, IPA's, Heffeweizens, Dunkels, Belgian beers (White,Trappiste, etc), Bocks (YES - I agree , Shiner bock is GREAT!), Double Bocks, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah...
That is one of the great things about beer, you don't have to have a favourite, when there is such variety!!

Besides my own homebrew, either cold beer or free beer is the best. Actually there was some sort of contest a few years back. I believe a beer called Budvar, a Czech beer, was considered best.

I've tried some pretty different beers, my three most favorite, from the bottom up are:
3) Alexander Kieths Pale Ale from Nova Scotia Canada
2) Stella Artois from Europe (I think Amsterdam), not the imitation stuff from Labatts in Canada
1) Mississippi Mud, comes in an old fashioned brown ceramic jug. its dark like mud, with a twinge of sweet aftertaste.

Shiner Bock beer, made by the Spoetzl brewery in Shiner, Texas. Any of their brews are good, but the Bock is a true stand out. Deliciously dark and yeasty, it is best enjoyed with some authentic Texas barbeque.
