Our Planet is damaged beyond repair. How does it fit into ANY religion to poison and abuse and destroy? Call it "gods creation" or "Gaia" or just the blue planet, third from the sun, but what the heck would we be bickering about if none of us could live on it anymore?!? It is really a lot worse than most people realize and I guess no one wants to deal with it. People would rather debate cryptic ancient passages from their favorite "holy" book and try to prove each other wrong about everything. We need to co-operate!
(For any one not convinced or aware of how serious the situation is, there is plenty of evidence online and recently a film "An Inconveinient Truth")

Well, you make a good point.

How do we cooperate? Is that where leaders come in?

How do leaders reach large enough numbers of people? How about the people who will never be officially leaders, but who control the message that gets to most Americans?

Perhaps the answer to your question is: All the fighting about our creation stories is an expression of our feelings of helplessness. We recycle earnestly and many would like to buy a hybrid, but how can we solve the systemic problems when the folks who control mainstream information sources don't want us to solve the systemic problems?

Humans are incredible, tho; we've met great challenges in the past. This is the biggie, the existential moment. We don't seem up to it - but isn't that what's always been so charming about us when we pull it out at the last moment?

Or is that just hollywood?

Well, I agree with you about the condition of our planet. However, I think that one of the reasons that so many people try to spread the truth of their religions, especially Christians, is because many of us don't believe we have much time left on this earth. The way the world is headed seems to coincide with the scripture in Revelation, which would mean that Jesus is going to come back soon.

I think that it is important to take care of our planet because nobody actually knows the exact time that Christ will come back...but we have to worry about our souls first!

Yes it is damaged beyond repair. From what the scientists are saying we have passed the tipping point and even if they stopped all greenhouse gases, eliminated the gasoline combustion engine, global warming will continue its rampant upwards spiral. What can we do as individuals? We can live our lives striving for peace and harmony with our fellow man and have the wisdom to accept the things we cannot change. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

I know its serious!

There are some how don't want to know, or are too busy making money to care about what they leave.

God spoke: "Let us make human beings in our image, make them
reflecting our nature
So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea,
the birds in the air, the cattle,
And, yes, Earth itself,
and every animal that moves on the face of Earth." Gen 1:26

The same religion that Bush claims to be part of puts US in a place of responsibility but instead we chase the almighty dollar instead of taking good care of the things we have been given.

Betcha didn't think there was a Christian 'Greenie' out there. *smiles*

Human nature. Humans are supposed to be the "smartest" creatures on Earth, but I'm telling you we can be pretty dumb. We destroy our planet without thinking about it and then complain about it being screwed up. No, no religion says that we should destroy our planet, if anything most argue to protect it. As for how we where created, I think we will find out when we die. And your right, we need to spend more time trying to figure out how to save the life of our planet as well as ourselves.

You're right that we need to co-operate, and those of us who do not believe in God are perfectly willing to do that. However, in the eyes of the believers, we are evil tools of Satan, and their book tells them not to have fellowship with non-believers. So that's why we bicker all the time. We keep telling them that it doesn't matter what you believe just as long as we can work together. But they consistently don't want us around.

There is also the problem of Believers being in positions of governmental power and using the seat of power to promote and/or force their beliefs on the rest of us.

The Earth is not beyond repair. It might take thousands of years, but the Earth can take care of itself.

The problem is that the human existence is not going to survive. We're destroying ourselves, but the planet will recuperate once it wipes us out when we've made it uninhabitable for ourselves.

Honey, their 'Good Book' tells of the end of the Earth...so how can we ask them to care? They are fulfilling their fairy tale story. Frustrating...Yeah for the rest of us. But our Earth Mother will cleanse herself, you can bet on it! She will survive, and so will some of us, to rebuild and teach the children a better way! ; )
Blessed Be....

Human beings are parasites. Like all other parasites, we are unstoppable until our host dies. We each know what we are doing is wrong, but we are powerless to change it...it would mean losing free will.
