I don't know. you should recreate the situation again, especially the part about somebody getting hit in the face with a tennis ball. repeat it several times, take down the appropriate data like the presence, distribution, and amount of blood, how loud the subject yells, any secondary effects like crying or cursing, and how far the ball bounces after impacting the subject.

If it was an accident it really isn't a matter of being ok. So, if your asking if it was ok to be careless while throwing a tennis ball, I would say no, but accidents do happen.
