I would take an advanced office skills course or an office managemnt course. When it comes to positions such as Personal Assistants etc, companies are not necessarily looking for young and bubbly, they are looking for sound experience and drive. You should consider moving into one of these roles to if you would like to stay in a similar line of work to what you are currently doing.

I feel that now u shld take up a course of ur interest and take it as a sideline so that u can contiune to work as well. NTUC is also ofering courses like hairstyling, spa services ... think u can join and learn it as an additional skill. SInce u are a secratray, I think that you can take up additional PA courses and computer courses to upgrade urself and also mgt courses so that u can tell ur boss that you have some value added skill in the company. in any case, if you like your current job very much, find out the course or path u can tak in ur company by asking ur boss what will be your status in the company in the future and the necessary skills u need in order to survive in that company when u have u appraisial . But of cos, I think having an addiitonal skill will help u better for u can open a biz with that skill.

Job security is not more a definite in Singapore, I am an IT professional for 6 years, but I am losing my job soon next month. The company is getting more foreign contract staff. This is generally what is happening at Singapore labour market. I will be taking up a contract job with 50% of my current salary. You just have to adopt to the situation and accept the reality.

Get rid of the that thought about " losing job after 40". Do your job well now and maintain a high working standard in yrself. A good experienced secretary is well appreciated by others. U may want to take up some courses to widen yr working opportunities in the job market.

If I were you I would go to school for something that relates to your company. Then your boss will see that you are willing to educate yourself and move up in the company. You can get a job at 40 ok my husband got a second job at 45 so if he can do it so can you....good luck and dont worry so much just enjoy life

In this current situation everybody is dispensible to all companies. In order to avoid losing job after 40, we must face the reality by upgrading our knowledge and our skill. In this way we can actually enhance our chance of being keep by our company. Even in the worst case where we are being retrenched, we still have the necessary skill and knowledge tt is required to survive in this world. but we have to accept the fact our new employer may not willing to pay us as much as we earn previously. So I think it is necessary to upgrade our own skill and knowledge before we are being kicked out of our job

you say you are normal... - isnt that an advantage already?
Seriously I dont think there is any kind of certain solution. Work your best and if thats not enough and you will get fired you can always get qualified in another field. Many people do that. Good luck.

Keep following the company rules and performing at the same level or better than you have been. They'll have no reason to let you go.
