This puppy is apprx. 2 mos. old and had his first vet visit about a week and1\2 ago. The vet. asked for a stool sample, and he tested it and said the puppy had no worms. Well, over the past two days the puppy's had diarreah, and at times when he has to go,he just passes gas and some yellow slimey stuff comes out. Today, we noticed blood in his stool.,yet he's very perky, eats well, that all seems fine.We plan on calling the vet. to get him in as an emergency visit, but in the meantime, has anyone ever had this problem with their puppy. His name is Zeek and is a very loved puppy. Thank you for your answers.

Thank you for not taking your vet's word for your puppy's health! First things first, ALL puppies...and I mean ALL puppies, no matter their breeding or pedigree have worms at birth. That's a given. IF they gave your puppy strongid or some other type of wormer as a precautionary and routine treatment at his first vet visit, this could explain his slimy stools although most wormers work within a day or two. It's likely the breeder you purchased yoru puppy from could have already wormed the pups before sending them to their new homes so that would explain the negative fecal. Most wormers will not treat all types of worms however; some are more difficult to eliminate or take different types of wormers.
Another thing is Coccidia...the bane of the rescue world and the world of puppies! most cases resolve themselves but most puppies have it in some form or degree of severity in their puppyhood. SOme cases go unnoticed and some progress to the point of death. Coccidiosis (the name for being infected with coccidia organisms) can cause diarrhea, watery stools, mucous and blood in the stools. Special testing is required to detect it. Here is an article to better explain it:
http://www.marvistavet.com/html/coccidia.html
Another consideration is parvovirus...it's is a strongly held belief that some pups can contract parvo from the vaccine itself! I have myself seen several puppies come down it immediately following vaccination. Of course a puppy with parvo declines rapidly and there is a distinct odor to the parvo stools as well a distinct odor with coccidia stools. It is unmistakeable that something is wrong when you smell either!
Slimy, bloody stools can also be caused by the puppy ingesting something he shouldnt have. Irritation to the bowels cause the mucous and blood to be in the stools sometimes. Either way, I agree you need to take your new pup back to the vet and find out for sure. Congrats and good luck with the new puppy!

The stool that you are describing sounds like little Zeke may have coccidia or gardia or even both. Coccidia and gardia are both treatable, but little Zeke will need to see the vet to get the medicine to rid him of these bacteria. Your vet should do another fecal exam on him to look for one or both of these organizisms. Suggest to your vet to leave the fecal exam sitting for a little longer than normal when you take little Zeke to the vet (as my vet explained to me that sometimes these bacteria are hard to find when a fecal exam is performed so she will let the sample set for a little longer than she normally lets them set when she's checking for worms). As long as little Zeke is feeling well (acting happy, eating and perky) you're probably safe just calling the vet and setting up an appointment to take Zeke in (you really do not have to worry about it being an extreme emergency because he sounds fine otherwise, but he will need to see his doctor). Best of luck!

Has he eaten any people food or a new type of dog food? Sometimes they can have stomach and digestive issues after changing foods.
It is possible from having diarreah that his anus has become cracked and irritated, which may be the source of the blood in his stool. If he seems chipper, you don't have anything to be too concerned about and he should be ok until a doctor can check him out to find out what is causing the problems.

It vould be worms or something like parvo. Sometimes the worms do not show on a stool check. As long as he is feeling okay, playing and eating tho, it sounds like he is okay for now. Hope the little guy will be okay. Cute puppy by the way.

Could be parvo or other virus but just as likely it's coccidia or giardia.
Get meds from vet & treat, whether or not there is a negtive fecal. May NOT show but still be there.
NOt emergency.

your silly puppy has more than likely eaten something she shouldn't have. this has happened at my house many times. it is scary to see the blood in the poopy mess. our vet recommended a half teaspoon of kaopektade or some other human liquid medicine for diarrhea. she should be better by tomorrow night. she probably is very thirsty too

Have you changed the food or gave him new treats? that could cause it or it could be something more serious. take it to the vet asap if it isn't eating or drinking. usually if they are acting fine as far as eating and drinking goes it is not THAT seriousand can wait until morning, but you should consult with your vet.

If it were my dog, I'd take it to the animal hospital emergency room. There is definitely something wrong.
Don't wait. The puppy is suffering.
