Your eyes don't have a stigmatism; they have an astigmatism. It means, basically, that you not only have blurry vision; your eyes also have what I call waved vision: if you're looking at something, parts of it appear closer to you and other parts appear further away.

You can't detect this on your own. If you have terrible vision, you just know you have terrible vision. Like me. :)

Astigmatism is when your pupil or cornea or something is no longer round, but instead starts becoming spherical. So you need an extra prescription on your glasses or contacts to correct for that.

It's very common and easily corrected.

i think you may be thinking of astigmatism-its when there is a disorder or something wrong with the eye, the majority of the time resulting in the person having to wear contacts and or glasses.

astigmatism is a condition that affects your eyeballs. instead of your eyes being perfect little circular balls, they're shaped like a football. this means you can't wear contacts because they just don't fit right.
but other than that, it doesn't bother a person too much. it has no bearing on how well you see.

an eye disorder.

i have acute astigmatism in both eyes that requires me to wear bifocals, but i didn't want to wear those big thick lenses so i had to pay and arm and a leg for invisible bifocals...

in the end, i can see.
