it's actually warning you to get your feet clean before coming into the house....ha ha ha ...actually by doing the wiping feet actions, your dog might be thinking that it's an indication action to start playing....so your dog is happy and started barking....

I'm really not sure. I've been told that dogs have scent glands in their feet that they use to mark their territory. It could be that he thinks you are doing this as some sort of territorial behaviour, and is barking to either challenge you, or anyone else who might try to encroach on your territory. But, I'm not an animal behaviour expert, so that's just a theory.

Another explanation is that he doesn't like the sound it makes. Dogs have very sensitive hearing, and it could be you wiping your feet is making a sound that he really doesn't like. But again, that's just a theory.

He might be scared of it - try lifting just that up and call him over and have him sniff it and see what his reaction is to the mat - maybe the material is weird or makes a weird noise that he can hear.

take away the mat for a day and put a towel there and see if he does the same thing with the towel. Then you may want to change that mat to a different type maybe ~dogd r 2 funny :o)

Dogs can be odd. I had one that would bark everytime my father in law wore a red cap. I know they are supposed to be color blind but he only barked at the red cap not at any other color.
