to qualify, Rob, about an hour ago, I threw a "fit" at my next door neighbor for really no good reason...I wasn't really even that mad at her. and shortly thereafter threw another fit at my husband....what was happening at the time, I was rearranging some furniture and didn't feel my husband was really helping me enough and I was trying to perform a task and was getting very flustered and overheated in this Texas heat and my back started hurting real bad and before I knew it, I just "blew". I take my Zoloft/Depakote as ordered religiously as ordered and have recently been diagnosed Diabetic....I would say my health is bad and have very little physical stamina...my ac is working, but it just doesn't seem like it's cool enough and I'm under physical stress from all this though I thought I was mentally calm till all this happened....that's why I was thinking the physical stress launched my "episode''

An excess of any kind of stress can trigger a flooding of seratonin, which is the hallmark event of a manic episode. A simple episode of overheating, however, sounds insufficient in most circumstances. Were there other stresses? Were your medications within the therapeutic range? It's important to have your blood levels checked regularly to ensure you're not overdosed or underdosed on the medicine.

first ill let you know that i'm not a quote "expert" in bipolar, but i'm living with ADD, my gf has ADD and a friend of mine has ADHD, so i know alot about the field from experience. usually, if they're on medication and the medication is still within its working timeframe, there shouldn't be any problems like that. if it is around the time that the medicine is supposed to begin wearing off, then it wouldnt be at all unusual if there are some bi-polar symptoms kicking in again.
I know with my ADD medication (adderal) i had to upsize my dosage like twice before it made a pleasant difference between the time lapses and odd feelings i'd been having. so you might talk to your Dr. and see if that might be the case. also, try other kinds of bi-polar med. if you think the medication that person is taking isn't really helping as much as you liked. i also had this problem, i got started off with the regular ADD medicine, but since ADD ADHD bi-polar etc are mental disorders, they are extremely hard to figure out just hwo they affect the mind and body, so i had to go back and change to the one i'm taking now (adderal) and it works really well. i hope you find the answer!!

Hi. I am bipolar and on two medications. I wish I knew what you meant by "set-off." Things like being tired, cloudy days, and extereme stress cause me to slip into depression. I have never, or have never heard of, someone switch into depression or mania immediately after a certain activity or event. It is more of a gradual slide. Some people can have a reaction to certain medications in the sun or getting overheated - you may want to check the side effects on WebMD or a site like that.

Yes, unfortunately, bipolars even when stable on a good med combination can relapse or be triggered. Usually meds do not eliminate the problems completely. Irritability goes along with bipolar disorder. Maybe something else bigger is also triggering that person at this time, too.

That could happen to anyone, especially with all the stresses you described. Apologize to your neighbor and to your husband. Then forgive yourself and go on. I feel for you. I've been "set off" (although I'm usually calm) especially by PMS in the past.
