Does anyone have any tips for a nice place to have a wedding reception in Buffalo, NY. We are getting married in may of 2007 and are just looking for ideas. We are having about 40 people and alot of places have a min of 100. Our budget for the reception is about 1,000 and we would like to have a bar.Any tips would be very helpful.

Congrats! If you are Catholic (chances are if you are in Buffalo ;-) ), a lot of the church basements and meeting rooms are really nice and they will let you do something there for free. You can decorate it to make it look really nice. Then you can get catering take-out from your favorite restaurants. We tend to do beef-on-weck and ziti a lot. Plus, Catholics like to drink so the bar isn't a problem. In fact most places in Buffalo don't have a problem with alcohol from what I have seen. Other church basements might be stricter, but I know that we have beer and wine (of course) in our church all of the time.

You can also see about just reserving a room in a local restaurant. A lot of places allow you to just set aside their back room for a large party. You might not be able to have the DJ and dancing, but food is what's important.

Also, look at the colleges and private schools. If it is after May 13th you can probably score a deal on their banquet rooms because the students will be out. All of these places will have catering and will be used to doing small parties.

Good Luck!

There are unique places for weddings that have a more personal touch for a smaller reception such as Inns, farm houses that are converted for small/large receptions, Mansions that have smaller rooms and larger rooms, depending on how many areas of the mansion you want to use.

Try Niagara Falls on the Canadian side of the border. Your dollar won't go as far as it used to here, but it's still a bit father than in the States and there are a lot of beautiful places in Niagara and the surrounding parts. The Falls (we have the better view from Canada), wineries, golf courses, hotels, etc...

Congrats and God bless.
