What was the original language of the Bible? (Hebrew? Aramaic? Koine Greek?)

NOTE: - The Bible was never in English during the time of any prophet (not even Muhammad) - because English did not exist until after 1066 AD!

Does the Bible exist in the original form anywhere on earth?
NO.

The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew, then translated to Greek (The Septuagint). There are a few Aramaic passages in Daniel. The New Testament was written in Greek, which was the common written language of the day.
There are currently over 26,000 copies of full or partial manuscripts of the Bible, far more than any other ancient literature. There are no original ancient writings in existence. Through time, temperature, and the materials they were written on, they didn't last long. That is why so many copies were made of the Bible, so it would last as long as man is on the earth.
Here is a little piece you may find interesting:

"Archaeological findings continue to confirm rather than refute the accuracy of the Bible. For example, an archeological find in northern Israel in August 1993 confirmed the existence of King David, author of many of the Psalms in the Bible.10 The Dead Sea Scrolls and other archaeological discoveries continue to substantiate the historical accuracy of the Bible.

The Bible was written over a 1500-year span, by 40 different authors, in different locations and on separate continents, written in three different languages, covering diverse subject matters at different points in history.11 Yet there is an astounding consistency in its message. Throughout the entire Bible the same message appears:

1. God created the world we live in, and created us specifically to have a relationship with Him.
2. He deeply loves us.
3. We have sinned and are under God's judgment, in need of His forgiveness.
4. God provided a way for our sins to be forgiven.
5. He asks us to receive His forgiveness and have a relationship with Him that will last eternally.

Along with this central script, the Bible specifically reveals God's character. Psalm 145 is a typical summary of God's personality, thoughts and feelings toward us. If you want to know God, here He is."

The Old Testiment was written in Hebrew, and the New Testiment was written in Greek. Some people say also in Aramaic, and some people contend that Jesus actually spoke Aramaic, which they said was sort of the common language or vernacular of the time. But it's most likely that Jesus, being what you would have called an Orthodox Jew, probably spoke Hebrew.
Who wrote the Bible? As I recall, it boils down to about 40 men because quite a few Books were written by the same man. The first five Books were written by Moses, and serval of the Epistle were written by one man. Five Books were written by John and quite a few books were written by Paul. So the Bible has 66 Books and about 40 authors.
I've heard that the Bible in it's origional form doesn't exist anymore. Hope this helps...

The bible is a series of different books by many different authors and the original was in Hebrew. There was life before America and the English language. Before you immediately rebuke it you should at least seek some knowledge for yourself and maybe read a little. Try Matthew, Mark Luke and John and then you can make a real informed decision.

The first five books are attributed to Moses, probably in Hebrew or Eygptian (he was taught in the palaces).

I think that an orthodox jew, or a theologian can tell you the rest of the Old Testament authors.

The gospels were named by those who wrote them, many of the letter for the churches they were addressed to and say if its Paul.

Paul wrote Revelations.

Paul would have written in Hewbrew, but also have known Greek and Latin.

Its believed the scrolls that have been found are copies of the originals and we have not yet found an original.

There's a nice video you can stream at this site it is about the TNIV translation but gives quite a bit of general info about bible translation in general.

http://www.ibs.org/bibles/about/translation/index.php

Also there is an Exhibit about the making of the Bible at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Florida. Here is there online site(it's pretty nice and could link you to more info):

Interestingly the Dead Sea Scrolls are the oldest actual texts we have and they were discovered in 1948. When they took these far older scrolls and compared them to the versions that we had, they were miraculously accurate!!

The King James Version has no valid claim to be the first in English nor is it considered accurate. It is however very popular with cult leaders as it seems that it is so hard to understand it is easier to mislead people(IMHO).

The old testement is written in Aramaic. The New testement in Greek. Both were written by men believing they were inspired. Some really were while some only followed an agenda.

Those verses whose focus is on the suppression of clearly materialistic behavior (dress, hairdo, diet, cultural and sexual exclusion, to name a few) are from a materialistic agenda. Those verses which truly enlighten and inspire joy are Inspirational.

you're precise Christians trust the bible is God's be conscious even with the undeniable fact that it became inspired through God not written through God. There are sixty six books contained in the protestant bible written through round 40 diverse authors over a time span of round 2000 years. the unique autographs were lost to time and the bibles we've are variations of diverse copies. in case you seem on the creation pages to study bible you'll usually come across a paragraph or 2 about the authorship of that diverse books with arguments for and hostile to who the surely author may were.

Several ppl wrote the Word given from God. The King James Version is the original translation to English. And Gods word says not to add to His Word nor take away from His Word and I have faith that that's what they did when they translated it. And I'm sure God seen to it.

Paul wrote all the books to the Churches.
John wrote Revelations. I just wanted to get that strait from reading the above answers.

The Old Testament was written in Hebrew, New Testament in Greek. The dead sea scrolls are over 1600 years old and do not vary from what we currently have in our English version, as for Mohamad....wrong religion, you should know what your talking about before asking a question
