If you feel that 20% is a reasonable rate of interest, then by all means use the card as often as you can. I personally think it's insanely high... plus you have an annual fee on the card as well, don't you? The Capital One customer service department is in India or somewhere so get an English to Indian to English dictionary because they do not know what the word "NO" means in their language. Wait til they call you about the special services you have become entitled to. Use the card to establish your credit but pay that bill on time EVERY month and you can spread a purchase out to 3-4 months before paying in full. Paying it off in full does not really establish credit because the credit card company wants as much of that 20% interest as they can get. If I were you, I would not go over $500 at any one time. After six months get them to lower the interest or find another card that will beat that 20% interest. You have a good start to building credit but if you read other questions here, you will see how many people are in debt up to their noses with most of it being credit card debt. It's trap... play the game on YOUR terms, not theirs.

The interest rate is irrelevant! NEVER charge anything on the card that you cannot afford to pay for by the time the bill is due!! NEVER!!! If you cannot meet that criteria, then you cannot afford what it is you want to buy. If it is extremely important (such as food) then go hungry for awhile. Otherwise you will be held hostage by the CC industry and pay them big bucks. Having said that, get a rewards card. Mine from Capital One gives me back 2% for gas, groceries and drugstores. I've always found their customer service to be fine. Start good habits NOW.

I have the same card, but my limit is lower ($400). With a Platinum card, you get additional benefits, such as travel and warranty. I think my interest is the same, but I'm not sure since I max it and pay it in full every month. Capitol One has awesome customer service.

You should consider yourself lucky you got a decent credit line with "Crapital" One., 94% of the applicants get a credit line as low as $300.00 and don't even ask for a credit line increase because this bank does NOT do them... EVER!

Another important thing you need to be aware of is "Crapital" One DOES NOT report your credit limit to the CRAs, this looks bad on the credit reports and will tarnish your scores within time because if your utilization is less than 30%, your highest balance will be reported and will be based as the credit limit. If you charge something over that initial high balance, it will appear in the credit reports that you when over the limit.

I get their pre-approved offers in the mail every single week. And every time i throw them away, i don't need more financial problems in my life, i got enough with HSBC/Orchard Bank.

it's a good card. just the interest is high and like any other card if you are back on ur payments ur credit history will really get screwed up. watch ur payments and pay them fully. otherwise get ready to pay 20% extra a month for anything u havent paid off! that can really add up.

Be sure to make all of your paments on time or your life will be a living he**. (This is also a very high interest rate.) I used to work a banking consumer hotline, and this was one of the worst credit card companies, next to Cross Country Bank.

Good card to start with, they will back you to start credit with Lowe's,Car Rental Discounts,Motel rates.Interest is high, but they will cut your interest down,if you are in good standing.I had them for two years, paid it off quick as I could. Now the credit cards are coming in with a lot lower interest rates.
